Description
We are global private markets specialists delivering tailored investment solutions, advisory services, and impactful, data driven insights to the world’s investors. Leveraging the power of our platform and our peerless intelligence across sectors, strategies, and geographies, we help identify the advantages and the answers our clients need to succeed.
Position Overview:
The Senior Associate, Business Automation Solutions (the “Architect”) will be a senior member of the Applied Engineering Solutions team within StepStone’s Data Analytics and Technology Solutions (“DATS”) department. This person is a polyglot engineer and hands-on architect who helps teams across the firm take their solutions from prototype to well-architected production. They guide how a solution should be structured, ensure it is deployed and networked correctly within our Kubernetes platform, and where a partner team lacks the technical resources, engineer the solution on their behalf. The role spans PHP, React, Python and Kubernetes/DevOps, and suits an engineer who is equally comfortable advising, reviewing, and building across the full stack.
Essential Job Functions:
- Partner with teams across the firm to bring their solutions — including AI-assisted and rapidly prototyped work — into a strong, maintainable framework, and productionize them to the team’s standards
- Own deployment and intracluster networking: package and ship solutions via Helm charts on Kubernetes and ensure correct service-to-service networking and access to the right data within the cluster
- Lead Kubernetes/DevOps practices for partner-team deployments: Helm, GitHub Actions CI/CD, containerization, observability, and release safety
- Engineer on partner teams’ behalf when they lack the technical resources, delivering production-quality code across PHP, React, and Python
- Review partner-team work and enforce standards (architecture, security, code quality) before it reaches production
- Advise teams on how a problem should be tackled end-to-end, reducing one-off, unsupportable solutions and steering work into shared frameworks
- Coordinate cross-team delivery in JIRA; partner with QA to define and meet testing and acceptance goals
- Mentor analysts and associates and raise the engineering bar across the teams you support
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, including production ownership and demonstrable technical leadership or cross-team enablement
- Working proficiency across Python, PHP, and React (JavaScript/TypeScript); able to read, review, and write code in each
- Strong Kubernetes and DevOps capability: Helm charts, intracluster networking and service configuration, GitHub Actions (or comparable CI/CD), and containerized deployments
- Demonstrated ability to review others’ work and enforce architecture and code-quality standards
- Strong communication and consulting skills; comfortable guiding teams that are not primarily engineers and owning JIRA coordination
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience packaging and distributing internal libraries (private package registries, polyrepo/monorepo strategy)
- Experience operating production systems
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with finance, private markets, or investment data domains
