Amentum is hiring a qualified Aircraft Mechanic I in support of Kadena Air Base, 18th EMS, Okinawa, JAPAN.

Aircraft Mechanic- I must have a combination of experience to perform corrosion related repairs to assigned aircraft, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions. Make repairs to aircraft and follow direction of higher graded workers. The Aircraft Mechanic I follows specific weapon system technical manuals for aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti- icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating system corrosion control inspections. The Mechanic-I repairs, replaces, and treats damaged aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including flight control surfaces, interior/exterior aircraft skins, plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and related equipment. This mechanic reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing severely damaged components. Responsibilities include entries in the maintenance records the description of work being performed and verifies all service was performed satisfactorily, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, specializes in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies. Must specialize in corrosion treatment and repair. May require specialization in aerospace coating applications, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensing of contractor employee technical proficiency is not required.

Physical/Working Environment:

Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that may range from standard shop type environment where there may be physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individuals to severe changes in temperature, direct sunlight, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work where high noise hazards prevail. Will be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment during periods of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on the Material Safety Data Sheets, working on or around aircraft and machinery. Aircraft flight line, hangars, and maintenance shops. Able to physically operate aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, platform high-reach, and high-pressure soap and water systems.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have or be able to acquire an Active Secret US Government Clearance. (Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance.)
  • Must be able to meet SOFA requirements outlined in USFJI 64-100 regarding citizenship.
  • May be required to complete a SF-85/86 in EQIP as required to maintain possession of a CAC card. Unfavorable background check may result in termination if determination is made you are not eligible for a CAC card.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Must possess 3 years of Aviation maintenance experience.
  • Must be computer literate; the ability to operate and use a computer to enter work details, pass downs, measurements, and various other inputs is required.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
  • Must have knowledge of the scope and limitation of various categories of maintenance and their application to the contract unit.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Must know theory and principles of engine operations; accessories and components; pneudraulic; and mechanical principles.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and use manufacturer’s maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules.
  • Must be able to operate motorized heavy high reach lift equipment.
  • Must have a US Passport.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
