Behavioral Health Technician (JTR)

Under direct supervision from the Journey-to-Recovery (JTR) Supervisor and/or Clinical Manager (BHP): provides assessment, facilitates groups, mentors clients, and provides monitoring and assistance for individuals with chemical dependency problems.  Works in a withdrawal management, residential or outpatient setting to help create and support a safe, secure and therapeutic environment.  Works with clients in the clinical programs and administers critical client referral care for medical and/or emergency treatment when necessary. Works closely with the Clinical team to ensure best outcomes for clinical care. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.

Interviews, screens and evaluates clients according to the established Intake process.

2. Provides clinical support to clients by way of mentoring, facilitating groups, have individual therapeutic contact, providing case management as needed, teaching recovery skills, facilitating recovery team meetings and working with families. 

3. Works with an integrated care team to ensure the best services for clients are achieved to include: psychiatry, counseling, case management and primary care. Often transports to appointments and connects clients to care outside and inside the clinical programs. 

4. Provides daily clinical documentation into client charts to ensure accurate reports of daily log of shift activities and client progress.

5. Works as liaison services between programs and treatment centers including referral agencies.

6. Facilitates connection to care by transporting clients to Alcohol Education, Behavioral Health appointments and/or AA/NA meetings.

7. Provides basic one-on-one counseling and support to clients with chemical dependency problems during their stay or over the telephone.

8. Attends ongoing training and participates in prevention and intervention community awareness events. Works to develop continued clinical skills by attending clinical oversight twice a month. 

9. May be called upon to assist in the training of new and current staff (full-time and temporary staff) on program procedures.

10. Performs all required administrative tasks associated with the Behavioral Health Tech role as directed to include (answering phone, great customer service, coordination of care, documentation needs).

11. When directed completes assessments/intakes, screenings, case management services.

12. Works shift work (am, pm, night shifts) and is willing to work weekends/nights. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

• Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions and history of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
• Knowledge of First-Aid methods and CPR techniques.
• Knowledge of Recovery Principles, Motivational Interviewing and Medication Assisted Treatment 
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, chronic medical illnesses and their basic symptoms.
• Knowledge of the effects of alcohol consumption and long-term effects of alcohol and substance dependency.
• Knowledge of the JTR programs, policies and procedures, particularly data collection system used by the program.
• Knowledge of basic computer software including MS Office.

• Skill assessing and evaluating emergency situations and using emergency procedures.
• Skill following complex verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures.
• Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the clients, SRPMIC staff and the public.
• Skill operating a variety of standard office equipment including photocopiers, FAX machines, printers, scanner and copier to fulfill job requirements.

• Ability to maintain accurate and timely program records, according to prescribed standards.
• Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles including, but not limited to, a fifteen (15) person van.
• Ability to operate a washer and dryer.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required; For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED. 
  • 4 years full-time behavioral health work experience
  • Must have current certification in First Aid and CPR prior to working with patients.
• Associate’s degree or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) ORLicensed Substance Abuse Technician (LSAT)
  • 2 years full-time behavioral health work experience
• Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health-related field (preferred).

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position.

• Special Requirements:  May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ensures all patient information is kept confidential and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and SRPMIC HHS policies and procedures.
