Job Description:
The Field Merchandiser is responsible for the hands-on execution of merchandising initiatives across TA locations. This position works as part of a traveling field team responsible for completing store resets, reflows, cooler resets and refreshes, remodel support, fixture changes, planogram implementation, promotional execution, backroom and storage organization, and other merchandising projects.
The Field Merchandiser may also assist with the reflow and remerchandising of deli and sales desk areas to improve product presentation, space utilization, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
This is a highly physical, hands-on role requiring frequent travel and the ability to work effectively in an active retail environment. Field Merchandisers will be expected to move merchandise, tear down and rebuild fixtures, stock and organize product, install merchandising materials, and ensure stores are completed according to approved layouts, planograms, merchandising standards, and BP safety requirements.
This role is 50 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Safety
Follow all BP and TA safety policies, procedures, and protocols at all times.
Complete required safety training and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a safe work environment for team members, store employees, customers, and vendors throughout each project.
Follow proper lifting, material-handling, ladder, equipment, cooler, and fixture-installation procedures.
Immediately identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, injuries, or other safety concerns.
Maintain clean and organized work areas during resets and leave stores safe and customer-ready at the completion of each workday.
Store Resets & Fixture Installation
Participate in complete and partial store resets, reflows, remodels, and merchandising refreshes.
Tear down, move, assemble, rebuild, level, and position retail fixtures and shelving according to approved store layouts.
Remove and reinstall shelves, peg hooks, displays, racks, endcaps, merchandising accessories, and other store fixtures.
Safely move product and fixtures throughout the store as required to complete resets.
Assist with receiving, staging, organizing, and installing new fixtures and merchandising materials.
Identify damaged or missing fixtures, components, or supplies and communicate issues quickly to the appropriate project leader.
Cooler Resets & Refreshes
Complete cooler resets, reflows, and merchandising refreshes according to approved layouts and planograms.
Remove, stage, organize, and replace refrigerated merchandise as necessary to complete cooler resets.
Adjust shelves, product placement, facings, and merchandising organization within coolers according to approved plans.
Assist with reorganizing cooler space to improve product presentation, shopability, inventory capacity, and replenishment.
Identify damaged shelving, fixtures, tags, signage, or other cooler-related merchandising issues and communicate them to project leadership.
Coordinate cooler work with store management to minimize product exposure and disruption to normal store operations.
Planogram & Layout Execution
Read, understand, and accurately execute approved store layouts, floor plans, planograms, cooler layouts, and merchandising instructions.
Set shelves, fixtures, products, and displays to the specifications provided.
Ensure correct product placement, facings, shelf heights, spacing, sequencing, and merchandising presentation.
Validate that completed sections match approved planograms and layouts.
Identify situations where store conditions prevent proper execution and call out those issues rather than making unauthorized changes.
Support field validation of new layouts and planograms and provide feedback when execution challenges are identified.
Backroom, Storage & Cooler Organization
Assist with the organization and improvement of backrooms, storage areas, coolers, and other inventory holding areas as part of store reset and reflow projects.
Organize inventory to improve accessibility, replenishment, inventory visibility, and overall store efficiency.
Help identify excess, obsolete, discontinued, damaged, or misplaced merchandise and follow established procedures for disposition.
Organize merchandising supplies, fixtures, shelving, signage, and other materials to improve store-level execution.
Help establish sustainable organization standards that store teams can maintain after the Field Merchandising team leaves.
Ensure backroom, storage, and cooler areas are left clean, organized, safe, and operationally functional.
Deli & Sales Desk Reflow Support
Assist with the reflow, reorganization, and remerchandising of deli and sales desk areas as directed by approved project plans.
Move and reposition merchandise, displays, shelving, racks, and other approved fixtures to support revised layouts.
Assist with improving product placement, customer flow, visibility, impulse merchandising, and overall presentation in these areas.
Support the merchandising of food, beverage, grab-and-go, impulse, and other approved products associated with deli and sales desk areas.
Install appropriate signage, shelf tags, promotional materials, and merchandising communication.
Work closely with store teams and appropriate functional partners to minimize disruption to deli, sales desk, and customer operations.
Product Merchandising
Remove product from existing fixtures and properly stage merchandise during resets.
Restock and merchandise products following completion of fixture, cooler, and Planogram work.
Identify discontinued, damaged, excess, misplaced, or non-planogrammed inventory and follow established procedures for disposition.
Ensure merchandise is properly faced, organized, priced, and presented before completing a project.
Install shelf tags, price labels, promotional signage, displays, endcap materials, and other merchandising communication.
Help ensure promotional and seasonal programs are implemented according to established standards.
Store & Team Support
Work collaboratively with store management and team members while minimizing disruption to customers and normal store operations.
Communicate project progress, execution issues, missing materials, inventory concerns, and other barriers to Field Merchandising leadership.
Assist store teams in understanding new layouts, cooler sets, merchandising standards, organization expectations, and other changes following a reset.
Maintain a professional attitude and represent BP/TA appropriately when interacting with store employees, customers, vendors, and other partners.
Support other field merchandising and retail execution initiatives as business needs require.

Safely use ladders and approved material-handling equipment when required.
Stand and walk for extended periods, including the majority of a work shift.
Perform repetitive lifting, stocking, fixture assembly, cooler resets, and merchandising activities.
Work for reasonable periods in refrigerated cooler environments when completing cooler resets or organization.
Work safely in active retail environments that may include customers, deliveries, contractors, and ongoing store operations.
Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable law.
Travel & Scheduling Requirements
Frequent travel is required, including weekly and overnight travel.
Must be able to travel by automobile and commercial airline as business needs require.
Must be able to work at TA locations throughout the United States.
Must maintain scheduling flexibility based on project and store requirements.
Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, overnight work, and occasional weekends depending on project needs.
Team members are expected to coordinate travel with other Field Merchandising team members when appropriate to improve efficiency and control travel costs.
Qualifications
Previous retail, merchandising, store operations, construction/fixture installation, warehouse, or related experience preferred.
Experience completing retail resets or working from planograms and store layouts strongly preferred.
Experience with cooler resets, inventory organization, or convenience/travel center merchandising is a plus.
Ability to read and accurately follow detailed instructions, layouts, diagrams, and planograms.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to execution standards.
Ability to perform physically demanding work safely and consistently.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a traveling team.

The scope of the role extends beyond simply resetting shelves. Field Merchandisers may work across the sales floor, coolers, backrooms, storage areas, deli, sales desk, and other customer-facing merchandising areas to help create a more effective overall store.
