Description

The highly rated Lake Oswego Public Library is seeking a part-time Librarian I or II (20 hours a week) to join its team of committed, enthusiastic and creative professionals who strive to provide excellent customer service. Under the supervision of the Library Manager for the Adult Services section, the individuals in these positions will work with colleagues to fulfill the Library’s mission.

Examples of Duties:

  • Performs materials selection/collection development duties for the general adult collection, including reviewing and evaluating materials and performing needs analysis to determine additions to collection.
  • Performs reference and readers advisory duties including assisting patrons of all ages in the use of library collections through the reference interview and instruction in the use of library catalogs, indexes, and digital and print resources.
  • Designs graphics to promote Library programs for adults.
  • Conducts outreach to marginalized community groups and builds partnerships with community organizations to expand the access to library services. This includes helping to coordinate and staff bookmobile visits, leading tech help clinics, and delivering presentations on library services to community groups.
  • Develops and coordinates programs, special events and displays on a variety of topics in collaboration with community partners.  
  • Participates as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities.
  • Assists with special projects and library research as assigned by the department manager.

This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees’ Association/ American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).  

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation with a Master’s degree in Library Science, Educational Media, or an equivalent level of education and work experience. Candidates should have excellent organization, presentation and communication skills; the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other employees and the public. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. This position is subject to mandatory participation in electronic funds transfer (EFT) for payment of net wages (i.e., Direct Deposit or PayCard).

The selected candidate will fill one of the following positions based on qualifications

Hourly pay rate:

Librarian I - $27.40 - $34.98

Librarian II - $33.10 - $42.24

Non-cash compensation includes medical, dental, vision, PERS employee pick up, VEBA contribution, and TriMet Hop Pass.

Bilingual PayEmployees who can speak and/or write a language listed in the top five (5) most common languages spoken in the Lake Oswego School District, may be eligible for three percent (3%) bilingual pay.
