Job Description:
AriensCo is recruiting for a motivated and passionate Controls Technician to be part of our team here in Fayetteville.
4 x 10 schedule Mon.-Thur. 4AM-2:30PM
The Controls Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated equipment and control systems throughout the facility. This role ensures equipment uptime, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborates with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
THE DAY TO DAY...
Equipment Maintenance & Trouble Shooting
- Diagnose and repair issues with automated machinery, robotics, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and electrical systems.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on automated equipment to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Respond quickly to production equipment failures to restore operation safely and efficiently.
Control Systems & Programming
- Assist with PLC programming, modifications, and logic changes (Horner, Keyence, or similar platforms).
- Configure and maintain HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, and communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, RS232, and RS485.
- Maintain accurate documentation of control system changes, wiring diagrams, and equipment schematics.
Installation and Commissioning
- Support installation, startup, and debugging of new automation equipment.
- Assist engineering teams with integration of machinery, sensors, robotics, control hardware, and vision systems.
- Ensure all new equipment meets safety and compliance standards.
- Run Factory Acceptance Testing of new equipment.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve machine performance, reduce downtime, and increase automation reliability.
- Support Lean/Kaizen activities and recommend system upgrades or process improvements.
- Collaborate with tooling, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize equipment performance.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all facility safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical safety standards.
- Ensure work complies with NEC, NFPA 70E, and company-specific guidelines.
- Participate in safety audits and implement corrective actions where needed.
THE REQUIREMENTS...
- Associate degree in Automation, Electromechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field — or equivalent experience.
- Self-starter who can identify problems, prioritize tasks, and take initiative without constant direction.
- Must demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and pride in their work. The ideal candidate proactively identifies and resolves issues, follows tasks through completion, and is committed to maintaining equipment reliability and production performance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in PLC-controlled and automated systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and control diagrams.
- Experience with sensors, relays, robotics, servo/stepper motors, VFDs, and industrial networking.
- Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
