About the Company

Our client is an employee-owned general contractor with 80+ years of experience and approximately $500M in annual revenue, delivering complex heavy industrial and infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast.

Its Heavy Industrial division specializes in power generation, hydro, chemical, battery storage, water/wastewater, and renewable energy, with significant self-perform capabilities and a strong project backlog.

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Project Director – Electrical Construction to provide senior-level leadership and oversight for the electrical execution of complex heavy industrial and infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast.

This is a corporate-based leadership role with limited travel to support clients and project teams. The Project Director will oversee electrical execution from estimating and preconstruction through installation, commissioning, and closeout, while providing leadership to Electrical Project Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, and self-perform electrical teams.

The ideal candidate has progressed beyond individual project management into broader operational leadership, with a strong background in self-performed electrical construction, project financial management, field operations, and multi-project oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the electrical scope of major industrial and infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee electrical project execution from estimating and preconstruction through installation, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Electrical Project Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, and field personnel.
  • Establish project execution strategies, manpower plans, schedules, procurement plans, and productivity expectations.
  • Maintain accountability for electrical project budgets, cost controls, forecasting, labor productivity, and profitability.
  • Coordinate electrical activities with civil, mechanical, instrumentation, engineering, procurement, and other project disciplines.
  • Review project schedules and ensure electrical activities remain aligned with overall project milestones.
  • Provide technical and operational guidance regarding electrical construction methods, sequencing, constructability, and field execution.
  • Work closely with owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal leadership to resolve issues and maintain strong relationships.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Support estimating, proposals, change management, and business development activities as needed.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with company safety, quality, contractual, and operational standards.
  • Participate in project reviews and provide senior leadership with visibility into project performance, staffing, financial status, risks, and opportunities.
  • Help build and maintain a strong pipeline of electrical construction talent.
  • Support the continued expansion of the company's self-perform electrical capabilities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in heavy industrial electrical construction.
  • Significant experience managing self-performed electrical work on large industrial, power, energy, manufacturing, utility, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading multiple electrical projects, project teams, or a significant electrical operation.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction means, methods, sequencing, and field execution.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for project budgets, forecasting, scheduling, manpower, productivity, and profitability.
  • Experience with electrical scopes such as:
    • Medium- and high-voltage distribution
    • Substations
    • Switchgear
    • Motor control
    • Instrumentation and controls
    • SCADA
    • Process electrical systems
    • Plant power distribution
  • Experience coordinating electrical work within complex, multi-trade construction environments.
  • EPC, design-build, power generation, heavy industrial, energy, manufacturing, water/wastewater, utility, or large-scale infrastructure experience is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

Benefits

  • $175,000–$225,000 base salary
  • Opportunity for annual bonus
  • Lucrative ESOP / employee ownership opportunity
  • Corporate-based leadership position with limited travel
  • Travel primarily to meet with clients and support project teams throughout the Southeast
  • Opportunity to lead a growing electrical construction operation
  • Employee-owned culture with significant long-term career potential
  • Exposure to technically complex industrial, energy, infrastructure, and power projects
  • Opportunity to influence electrical operations, talent development, project execution, and business growth
