As an Inland Marine Underwriter within the Middle & Large Commercial organization, you will quarterback the sales and underwriting process by building exceptionally strong and lasting relationships with agents and brokers, ensuring that The Hartford is the carrier of choice.

Success in this role will also entail effective account stewardship by managing the sales process from strategic planning to operational excellence and developing cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across the team.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and assess underwriting information and complex risk and make recommendations to management.
• Maintain disciplined adherence to underwriting and service standards.
• Weighs decisions between underwriting standards and customer needs and expectations.
• Balances risk relative to return to make effective and acceptable underwriting decisions.
• Assist in conducting client meetings/agency calls.
• Develop marketing plans and strategies.
• Cultivate customer and producer relationships to promote Marine products and services within regional office.
• Seek out resources to identify and satisfy customer and producer needs.
• Share pertinent information to support product development, market research and identification of business opportunities between Marine lines of business and other Hartford business units.
• Effectively utilize the Marine Center to support sales and service objectives.
• Ensure achievement of financial goals and business plan objectives.
• Manage change effectively and positively.
• Utilize system efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of P&C Commercial Carrier production underwriting experience required; Inland Marine preferred.
• Expertise in underwriting construction, transportation, and renewable energy risks preferred.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
• High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
• Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes
• Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
  Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.
• Valid driver's license, as company pool car may be provided.

***This position can be filled at different levels, depending on experience***

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$71,600 - $186,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
