Description

Help grow a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day.

The Design Engineer II is responsible for conducting comprehensive technical analyses of OsecoElfab products, including associated tooling, to establish well-defined, documented functional design principles and dimensions in order to meet customer requirements for their applications. This role ensures seamless compatibility between products within various product lines and leads to quality improvement or productivity projects for existing products. As a key member of the engineering team, the Design Engineer II fosters strong collaboration across departments and disseminates technical product knowledge to internal functions. This role actively participates in Agile team structures and Stage Gate New Product Development processes and embraces emerging tools — including AI-assisted design and productivity software — to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of engineering work.

In addition to the outlined responsibilities, all employees are expected to consistently uphold and embody our company's Values in their daily work, fostering a culture of integrity, caring, teamwork, drive, and agility.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed technical analyses of OsecoElfab products and associated tooling to establish fully defined and documented design principles and dimensions.
  • Ensure compatibility between products across various product lines.
  • Lead quality improvement projects for existing products, applying structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Production teams.
  • Prepare and present technical training for internal teams.
  • Identify critical product features and dimensions, reducing product development cycle time and eliminating design risk areas.
  • Collaborate in Kaizen and 5S projects to drive operational excellence.
  • Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to assess feasibility and recommend design solutions.
  • Create and maintain Engineering Product Documentation, including Design Standards and Tooling Standards.
  • Identify and document future product design opportunities and present them to Segment teams for potential IP opportunities.
  • Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software (e.g., SolidWorks, FEA/simulation tools) to perform engineering tasks with precision and efficiency.
  • Plan daily, weekly, and monthly workload, aligning priorities with objectives.
  • Develop engineering analyses of our products for customer-provided applications.
  • Design and establish manufacturing specifications for new products and adapted products to fulfil customer needs in their application.
  • Actively participate in Agile team structures, supporting sprint ceremonies including planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives to deliver iterative engineering work products.
  • Contribute to Stage Gate New Product Development (NPD) processes by completing assigned deliverables at each phase, supporting gate readiness reviews, and maintaining documentation to project milestones.
  • Engage with customer feedback and application data to develop an understanding of customer pain points; contribute to the translation of these insights into product requirements and design decisions.
  • Utilize AI-assisted engineering and productivity tools to support design tasks, automate routine analyses, and improve documentation quality and turnaround time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering principles to design challenges.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical information clearly.
  • Familiarity with industry Codes & Standards relevant to pressure-relief and containment products.
  • Comfort working within Agile team environments and structured NPD frameworks.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn and adopt new tools, including AI-assisted design and productivity software.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience in a manufacturing environment.
  •  Experience using  CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with engineering simulation or FEA tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace, military, and/or defense industry environments, including familiarity with relevant regulatory standards and design requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in AI architectural design or the development of AI-enabled tools to improve engineering efficiency, reduce cycle time, or automate repetitive analysis tasks.
  • Familiarity with business model and value proposition design frameworks such as Strategyzer (Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition Canvas), Jobs-to-be-Done (JTBD), or Lean Canvas; ability to apply these frameworks to align product design decisions with customer needs and commercial objectives.
