Fleet Specialist

Prepare and review vehicle and equipment specifications and warranty agreements; oversee and coordinate the receipt, maintenance and servicing of fleet vehicles; maintain contact with vendors regarding warranty work, equipment and maintenance; investigate fleet accidents and perform vehicle and equipment safety inspections; perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation. 

1. Coordinate the service and maintenance activities of fleet vehicles with vendors; ensure compliance with established vendor contracts and warranty agreements.
2. Prepare and review vehicle and equipment specifications for bid and/or warranty agreements.
3. Coordinate the installation of public safety emergency or specialized equipment for fleet.
4. Produce a variety of research regarding various activities affecting fleet operations; prepare and maintain records, files and computer-generated reports on vehicle usage, maintenance, etc.
5. Determine if fleet unit meets described specifications during inspection of construction and/or repair(s).
6. May participate in fleet accident investigations; review safety investigation reports of accident and employee injuries; may recommend preventive measures.
7. Maintain contact with risk management staff regarding vehicle accidents and total vehicle losses.
8. Recommend and participate in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing fleet maintenance services; implement policies and procedures.
9. Monitor fleet program performance; recommend and implement modifications to systems and procedures.
10. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
 

1. Attend meetings, seminars and training programs.
2. Maintain awareness of new developments in the field assigned; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
3. May coordinate vendor training on equipment or vehicles.
4. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. 

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or a two (2) year technical certificate in automotive repair, or business administration; and

Five (5) years of fleet maintenance experience; and

To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
 Environmental:
Inside work environment with frequent outdoor site inspections; may travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gasses, potentially hazardous chemicals; possible exposure to toxic materials.
