Hospital Representative
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital – Philadelphia, PA
Department: Eligibility
Reports To: Eligibility Manager
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Rotating Saturday and Sunday shifts: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (as scheduled)
Training Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM in our Cherry Hill, NJ office for approximately 6–8 weeks. Mileage reimbursement available for training travel.
Job Summary
The Hospital Representative supports PATHS' mission by assisting patients and families in securing appropriate health coverage, resolving billing issues, and advocating for financial resources. This role ensures accurate documentation, compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations, and contributes to timely revenue recovery for PATHS' healthcare clients. The position is based onsite at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and serves as a liaison between patients, families, healthcare providers, and government assistance programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist patients in applying for Medical Assistance and other applicable hospital, state, or federal assistance programs.
- Interview patients in a hospital setting to obtain information and complete required eligibility and financial assistance forms.
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility information.
- Work directly with patients, family members, employers, financial institutions, and governmental agencies to obtain required documentation.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
- Communicate professionally with hospital staff, case managers, social workers, and healthcare providers.
- Follow established procedures for account follow-up and case management.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
Required Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete training in the Cherry Hill, NJ office for approximately 6–8 weeks.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to interact with diverse patient populations and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information (HIPAA compliance required).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet established productivity and accuracy standards.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); familiarity with EMR systems and payer portals preferred.
- Ability to learn and work with Medicaid eligibility regulations and healthcare assistance programs.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous healthcare, patient advocacy, eligibility, customer service, or related experience preferred.
- EPIC and/or EMR system knowledge preferred.
- Medicaid eligibility experience is a plus.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent movement throughout hospital and office environments, including walking between patient rooms and departments.
- Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Because PATHS operates in the healthcare industry, certain screenings (including OIG/GSA exclusion checks and state Medicaid exclusion reviews) may be conducted on a recurring basis as required by federal and state laws, client contracts, and hospital compliance programs.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: $20.00 – $23.00 per hour
