The Disclosure of Information Specialist discloses/releases patient healthcare information to authorized individuals or entities while safeguarding the privacy, confidentiality, and security of the information.Required Behaviors:

Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Health Information Management
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of patient information, HIPAA, and patient confidentiality
- Sufficient experience/training to perform duties
- Organizational skills
- HIPAA Training
- Knowledge of release of information requirements and regulations
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products (i.e., Excel, Outlook, Word)
Preferred Qualifications:
- AHIMA Micro Credential for ROI
- RHIA/RHIT credential or be eligible to take exam necessary for certification
- Must take and pass certification exam within two (2) years of employment
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations with regard to disclosure of patient information and record retention n
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for oversight of release of patient information/data
- Responsible for ensuring patient information is maintained as required by federal and state regulations
- Promotes quality of care by ensuring requests for patient information are completed within forty-eight (48) to seventy-two (72) hours of receipt of request
- Works closely with healthcare providers to ensure patient information is received in a timely manner
- Works closely with HIM Supervisor to make certain no patient information is disclosed inappropriately
- Understands the content of health information in its clinical, research, and business context
- Ability to work with a variety of customers included but limited to patients, lawyers, and other healthcare providers in a diplomatic fashion
- Responsible for Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) – enter all requests into Meditech (Array Track +) ensure e-mails are generated to RAC Committee members, verify, and validate all patient information, make certain that patient record is copied and sent to appropriate address within specified timeframe. Verify record has been received. Ensure that all RAC correspondence is processed within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt of letter; distribute letter to appropriate RAC members. Process and track all RAC overpayments/underpayments.
- Responsible for oversight of all audits directly related to patient information for reimbursement purpose
- Participates in continuing education to maintain a high degree of credibility on the privacy, confidentiality, and protection of patient information
