As we expand our operations, we are seeking a skilled and driven individual to join us at our headquarters in Bremen as a Turbopump Design and Simulation Engineer (m/f/d).
Your mission
We are looking for a detail-oriented hands-on engineer (m/f/d) to design, execute and manage turbopump design and integration activities for our spaceplane demonstrators. In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams-mechanical, electrical, fluid system and control-to validate turbopump performance, reliability, and safety.
- Design and develop turbopumps for LOX/RP1 linear aerospike rocket engines.
- Use CFD, FEA, and analytical system modelling tools for performance prediction and optimization of key performance parameters like mass flow rates, pressure differences and overall efficiency.
- Re-iterate the design by performing FEA and CFD analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including propulsion, structures, and fluid system engineers, to integrate turbopump into the rocket engine unit.
- Selection of suppliers and components in close collaboration with manufacturing and procurement teams
- Conduct hydrodynamic sizing, design, and analysis work for inducers, impellers, diffusers, nozzles, turbines, and other turbomachinery.
- Additionally, design the accessories for the pump, including casing, shaft seals, bearings, and lubrication systems.
- Support turbopump testing team for data review and inspections.
- Perform fault tree investigations and root cause analysis
Your profile
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related field) with 2-3 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 4-5 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in turbomachinery including high-performance pumps, rotors, turbines, volutes, nozzles, shafts, seals, and bearings.
- Strong foundation of gas-turbine thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material science, rocket propulsion systems, hydrodynamic/aerodynamic design, and fundamentals of turbomachinery.
- Extensive knowledge of cryogenic fluids (e.g. LOX) behavior in high temperature and high-pressure environments.
- Proficiency with CAD software (CREO/CATIA/Solidworks) as well as FEM/CAD simulation software (Ansys Workbench)
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to produce clear technical documentation.
