JOB SUMMARY

This is a 4-week contract position that will assist the Anthropology Department in laboratory and field work associated with our burial recovery and repatriation projects.
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform archaeological survey and excavation.

  • Inventory, catalog, and analyze archaeological material.

  • Assist with report production.

  • Assist with documentary and archival research. 

  • Follows all Hamline University policies, procedures and protocols. 

  • All other duties as requested.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the:  Archaeology Supervisor

This position does not supervise other employees.

This position does not supervise student workers.

 

BUDGET MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for the following budget:  None

Budget Range: This position is not responsible for the management of a budget.
 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Experience with archaeological field and laboratory procedures and terminology.

  • Experience performing archaeological field work.

  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential records and data.

  • Experience and sensitivity in working with Native American communities.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google, and Google Apps.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology or related field.

  • Archaeological Field School.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with the archaeology of Minnesota.

  • Experience with artifact identification and analysis.

  • Experience completing site forms.

  • Experience with artifact illustration or photography.

  • Experience writing technical reports.

  • Experience with mapping and GIS hardware and software.

 

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

  • None required

  

WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT

  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be in good physical condition and have experience performing outdoor work under a variety of conditions with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to work an on-call schedule.

  • Ability to travel to on and off campus locations.

  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • This is a part time, non-exempt, grant-funded position.

  • This position may require travel within the state and overnight stays near work sites.
