Description
Own Windmill's growth - from developer awareness to self-serve activation to expansion. As a developer platform, Windmill's closest comparison is an open-source, self-hostable Cloudflare. So far, $4M ARR has been built with zero outbound and modest marketing - imagine what a dedicated growth person could do. This is a broad, high-autonomy role with one clear priority: make Windmill visible and credible to platform teams at US enterprises, our primary market. You'll own measurable targets: signups, activation, and enterprise pipeline sourced.
The team is lean by design: a few people with excellent taste ship faster than a larger team.
What you'll do, in priority order
- Visibility & brand: make every release an event. Launches, Hacker News, conference talks, YouTube, podcasts, and a regular release cadence that keeps Windmill in front of developers.
- Content for developers and for buyers: technical content developers actually want to read (tutorials, comparisons), plus what the enterprise buyer needs to say yes: customer case studies, migration guides from Airflow or Retool, security and compliance pages, cost comparisons. All of it built to rank in search.
- Warm enterprise accounts: we already know which companies run the open-source version at scale. Turn that into targeted campaigns and content for those accounts, and hand the engaged ones to the founders. No cold outreach.
In support of those: community (Discord, GitHub, forums), product-led growth (onboarding, activation, self-serve conversion), and analytics to measure what works.
Who we're looking for
You can be an engineer who wants to branch out, or a non-engineer with a deep feel for developer tools.
- Deep knowledge of the US market is very important. The US, and US enterprise in particular, is our primary market. You need to know those companies deeply as the ultimate buyer: how they discover, evaluate, and buy developer tools. The role itself is based in France.
- You write very well in English, for a technical audience. Blog posts, docs, comparisons, launch posts. This is the core skill of the job.
- Devtool growth experience is a plus, not a requirement. If you've grown awareness, adoption, or revenue for a developer-facing product, show us what worked.
- You understand how developers evaluate tools, what content resonates with them, and how open-source adoption works.
- No minimum years of experience, as long as you have plenty of devtool experience. It doesn't have to come from a growth job: having been a founder or a developer counts just as much.
Example projects in your first 3 months
- Write and ship a head-to-head comparison series (Windmill vs Airflow, Temporal, Retool, n8n) optimized for search
- Run a targeted campaign for companies already running the open-source version at scale, and hand the engaged accounts to the founders
- Redesign the onboarding flow to get new signups to a running workflow in under 3 minutes - measure activation lift
