What's exciting about the role

Verifone’s databases power payments worldwide, so they need to be fast, secure, and always on. You’ll own the performance, availability, and security of our relational fleet across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL, and you’ll get hands-on ownership of our active on-prem-to-AWS migration, moving workloads from on-prem and EC2 to RDS/Aurora. You’ll join a senior team of database engineers, with principal and staff engineers setting architecture direction, and you’ll act as a technical lead and coach for junior and mid-level colleagues.

What you'll do

• Deploy, manage, and tune production databases across on-prem, AWS EC2, and RDS/Aurora.
• Plan and execute cloud migrations and minimal-downtime version upgrades.
• Build and run HA/DR (Always On, clustering, streaming replication) against defined RPO/RTO targets.
• Own backup, recovery, monitoring, and alerting, with automation wherever possible.
• Partner with developers and architects on query tuning, schema/index changes, access requests, and capacity planning.
• Follow ITIL change/incident practices and support PCI compliance.
• Share the on-call rotation across all four platforms.
• Review work and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

What you bring

• 5-7 years of production database administration experience.
• Deep expertise in any two of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL, including HA, upgrades, and performance tuning.
• Working knowledge of the other two, enough for BAU and on-call tasks like health checks, backups/restores, access management, and basic troubleshooting.
• Hands-on AWS RDS/Aurora experience, ideally with on-prem-to-cloud migrations.
• Solid Windows and/or Linux fundamentals.
• Real automation skills in Python, Ansible, PowerShell, or Shell.
• Experience with a monitoring tool (New Relic, Datadog, Grafana, SolarWinds, or similar).

Nice to have

• PCI or ITIL exposure, Terraform/Ansible and CI/CD, schema design, and familiarity with MongoDB, Kafka, Redis, Snowflake, or AWS data services (e.g., Redshift).
