People Partner
Application Deadline: 30 November 2026
Department: People Team
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Kuala Lumpur
Description
The People Partner, APAC will be the first point of contact for day-to-day people matters across our APAC teams, with a particular focus on Kuala Lumpur. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, keeping core people processes running well and giving managers clear, pragmatic support.
Working as part of the global People team, you will balance operational delivery with manager coaching, employee experience and continuous improvement. You will know when to act independently and when to draw on colleagues or specialist advice.
What you'll be doing: People Partner
- Own and coordinate the employee lifecycle across APAC, including onboarding, probation, changes to employment, family leave, absence, offboarding and exit processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely people records, documentation and HR system data, working closely with colleagues responsible for payroll and administration.
- Ensure local policies, templates and processes remain practical, current and consistently applied, escalating legal or compliance questions when specialist input is required.
- Track recurring people activity and deadlines so managers and employees receive a reliable, responsive service.
- Provide clear, practical guidance to managers on performance, attendance, probation, conduct, capability, wellbeing and day-to-day employee relations matters.
- Coach managers to handle people conversations confidently, fairly and with appropriate documentation.
- Act as an approachable point of contact for employees, resolving straightforward queries and escalating sensitive or complex matters appropriately.
- Support fair and consistent outcomes by combining sound judgement, local context and Napier's people practices.
- Build strong relationships across APAC while staying connected to the wider global People team.
- Coordinate regional delivery of global people processes, including performance, engagement, learning, reward and recognition initiatives.
- Use people data and employee feedback to identify themes, risks and practical opportunities for improvement.
- Support managers with engagement action planning and follow-through.
- Contribute to People projects and change activity, bringing an APAC perspective and ensuring implementation works in practice.
- Spot opportunities to simplify processes, improve guidance and create a more consistent employee experience.
You are a practical, approachable People professional who combines sound judgement with reliable delivery. You can build trusted relationships with managers and employees, navigate different cultural and employment contexts across APAC, and turn people policies into clear, workable guidance.
Do you have what it takes:
- Practical experience in an HR generalist, People Partner, HR Advisor or operational HR Business Partner role, ideally supporting employees and managers in Malaysia.
- Experience supporting people matters in Australia, or clear evidence of working resourcefully across borders and quickly building knowledge of employment practices outside Malaysia.
- Working knowledge of Malaysian employment practices and the confidence to recognise when specialist legal advice is needed.
- Experience managing employee lifecycle processes and a range of employee relations matters with care and appropriate confidentiality.
- Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and close the loop on actions.
- A calm, credible and approachable communication style, with the confidence to coach and appropriately challenge managers.
- Sound judgement and a solutions-focused mindset, balancing employee experience, consistency, risk and business needs.
- Comfort using HR systems, people data and collaboration tools to support accurate decisions and efficient delivery.
- Fluent written and spoken English. Additional language capability relevant to the region is welcome but not essential.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to work across time zones when needed.
- Employees and managers receive timely, clear and commercially sensible support.
- Core people processes are accurate, well organised and delivered consistently.
- Managers become more confident and self-sufficient in routine people matters.
- Risks and sensitive issues are identified early and escalated with good judgement.
- APAC requirements are represented effectively in global People programmes.
- The employee experience in Kuala Lumpur and across APAC continues to improve.
