Do Work That Matters

As Principal Data Engineer, you’ll be the senior technical authority at the intersection of enterprise data, customer intelligence and customer activation. You’ll shape how trusted customer data is modelled, governed and activated across our data and marketing technology ecosystem.

This is not a campaign operations or platform administration position. It is a strategic, technically hands-on engineering role where you’ll establish architecture, reusable patterns and technical direction across Data, Marketing and Technology.

You’ll join Bankwest Technology as we build capability in an important and evolving area. Our enterprise data platform is built on Snowflake and dbt, and we are modernising how customer data supports audiences, journeys and customer engagement.

In this role, you will:

• Set the technical direction for customer data and marketing technology architecture.
• Define scalable patterns for moving data between Snowflake, marketing platforms and customer channels.
• Establish clear boundaries between enterprise data and marketing technology platforms, ensuring business logic is implemented in the appropriate place.
• Design reusable approaches for customer profiles, attributes, events, audiences, identity resolution and activation.
• Guide batch, near-real-time, streaming and event-driven integration patterns based on business requirements.
• Establish engineering standards covering data quality, reconciliation, lineage, observability, testing and deployment.
• Partner with Marketing, Data, Architecture, Privacy, Risk, Security and engineering teams to support trusted and responsible customer data use.
• Lead technical and architecture reviews, mentor engineers and remain hands-on enough to validate designs and solve complex engineering problems.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

You are likely to be a Lead Engineer or Architect who combines modern data architecture expertise with experience in customer data, marketing technology or customer engagement platforms. You can move between enterprise strategy, architecture decisions and practical engineering detail while influencing stakeholders across multiple teams.

You’ll bring experience across several of the following:

• Technical leadership across Architecture and engineering of enterprise-scale Martech or customer engagement platforms.
• Modern cloud data platforms, ideally Snowflake, although experience with comparable platforms such as Databricks, BigQuery or Redshift is also relevant
• dbt or comparable data transformation and analytics engineering practices.
• Customer data platforms, audience management, journey orchestration or customer activation capabilities.
• Adobe Experience Platform, Real-Time Customer Data Platform, Adobe Journey Optimizer, Braze, Salesforce Data Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Segment, Tealium or comparable technology.
• Customer identity, profile management, identity resolution, data contracts and reusable data products.
• API, batch, streaming and event-driven integration patterns.

Direct experience with every platform is not required. What matters is your understanding of the architectural principles behind modern customer data and marketing technology ecosystems, and your ability to make sound decisions about where data, capabilities and business logic should live.
