Req. ID:
JR111948 Sr. Engineer, Chemical
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Engineer to join our Construction & Planning Team for a state-of-the-art Semiconductor Plant Setup. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the proper design, integration, and implementation of chemical engineering processes required for semiconductor manufacturing. This position requires strong technical expertise in chemical systems, process safety, and materials compatibility rather than a management-oriented focus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Design & Engineering: Develop, review, and optimize chemical processes for semiconductor manufacturing, including gas distribution, chemical delivery, wastewater treatment, and air handling systems.
- Chemical Systems Integration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure proper installation and operation of chemical storage, handling, and distribution systems.
- Material Compatibility & Selection: Assess and recommend materials for pipelines, tanks, and process equipment to ensure long-term reliability and compliance with semiconductor industry standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations, including hazardous chemical handling, process safety management (PSM), and semiconductor industry best practices.
- Collaboration with Vendors & Contractors: Work closely with equipment vendors, EPC contractors, and construction teams to oversee chemical process installation and commissioning.
- Process Optimization: Provide expertise in chemical waste management, ultra-pure water (UPW) systems, gas abatement, and contamination control to enhance plant efficiency.
- Risk Assessment & Troubleshooting: Conduct HAZOP and risk analysis for chemical process installations and address technical challenges during construction and commissioning.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 10-15 years of hands-on experience in chemical process engineering for semiconductor fabs, specialty chemical plants, or large-scale industrial construction projects.
- Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with SEMI S2/S8, NFPA, OSHA PSM, EPA, and local environmental regulations.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for addressing chemical engineering challenges in a construction environment.
- Communication & Coordination: Ability to effectively communicate technical requirements with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and contractors.
- Should be able to apply use of Large Language Models or Generative AI Tools like Co-pilot, Claude or Chat GPT for day-to-day activities.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience in semiconductor fab construction projects.
- Knowledge of cleanroom protocols, ultra-high-purity (UHP) gas systems, and chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) processes.
- Certification in Process Safety Management (PSM) or Hazard Analysis (HAZOP).
Job Profile(s):
Construction & Design E2 - Construction & Design E3
Relocation level: (TBD)
