Commercial Painting Estimator
Locations: Raleigh, NC
Industry: Commercial Painting
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Painting Estimator to join a growing commercial painting organization with opportunities available in Raleigh, North Carolina.
This is more than a traditional estimating position. We are looking for someone who understands commercial painting, knows how to build accurate and competitive estimates, and can develop the relationships that turn bids into awarded work.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with General Contractors, attending pre-bid walkthroughs, visiting jobsites, networking with clients, and following up throughout the bidding process. Approximately 30% of the role involves client interaction and business development, so strong communication and relationship-building skills are important.
What You'll Do
-
Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial painting projects.
-
Review architectural plans, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements.
-
Develop detailed bids and proposals for commercial painting projects.
-
Manage a high volume of estimating activity while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
-
Build and maintain strong relationships with General Contractors, clients, and project partners.
-
Attend pre-bid meetings, jobsite walkthroughs, networking events, and client meetings.
-
Follow up on bids and work directly with clients to understand project needs and improve the likelihood of winning work.
-
Communicate with clients regarding scope, pricing, clarifications, exclusions, and potential changes.
-
Identify opportunities to increase project value through strong client relationships and follow-through.
-
Work closely with operations and project management teams to ensure a successful transition from estimating to awarded work.
-
Stay proactive with clients and General Contractors throughout the entire bidding process.
What We're Looking For
-
3+ years of commercial painting estimating experience.
-
Strong understanding of commercial painting scopes, materials, labor, and project requirements.
-
Proven track record of successfully estimating and winning commercial painting work.
-
Experience managing a significant volume of bids.
-
Proven ability to generate approximately $6M+ in awarded work annually.
-
Strong understanding of bid strategy, hit rates, pricing, and competitive positioning.
-
Experience working directly with General Contractors and commercial clients.
-
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
-
Comfortable attending client meetings, pre-bid walkthroughs, networking events, and jobsites.
-
Proactive, responsive, and highly organized.
-
Ability to follow through with clients and build long-term professional relationships.
Estimating Software
Experience with commercial painting estimating software is strongly preferred, including:
-
On-Screen Takeoff (OST)
-
Quick Bid
-
Bluebeam
-
BuzzBid
-
Similar commercial painting estimating platforms
Commercial painting estimating experience is strongly preferred over experience in another construction trade.
What We're Looking For in the Right Person
The right person will be:
-
Driven and motivated to win work.
-
Responsive and proactive with clients.
-
Relationship-oriented, not simply numbers-oriented.
-
Positive and solution-focused.
-
Comfortable taking ownership of opportunities.
-
Willing to get out from behind the computer and interact with clients.
-
Interested in continuously learning and improving.
-
Someone who understands that their reputation and follow-through directly impact future business.
Culture
The organization values collaboration, learning, accountability, and a positive attitude.
This is an in-office, collaborative environment rather than a fully remote position. The team believes that working alongside experienced professionals creates opportunities for learning, mentorship, and professional development.
Why Join?
-
Opportunity to work with an established commercial painting organization.
-
Work on major commercial projects.
-
Strong client and General Contractor relationships.
