As a Health Physics Associate, you will conduct assigned reviews of X-ray and radioactive materials personnel training and radiation safety procedures to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will ensure X-ray equipment is appropriately registered and participate in and monitor inspections of CCHS facilities performed by the Ohio Department of Health.
A caregiver in this role works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Conduct audits of X-ray and radioactive materials program records and safe operating procedures. This entails travel to remote sites.
- Review findings and provide follow-up with site personnel, assisting with problems identified during audits.
- Interface with Ohio Department of Health (ODH) inspectors and personnel routinely and during inspections.
- Maintain or assist with maintaining X-ray registrations for CCHS facilities.
- May occasionally be required to assist with radioactive materials safety and laser safety.
- Provide radiation safety oversight for all radiation-producing machines, including X-ray and CT equipment.
- Ensure departments operating radiation-producing machines maintain compliance with ODH requirements.
- Provide radiation safety coverage throughout Northeast Ohio, from Mercy Hospital and Canton to storage facilities in Columbus.
- Coordinate with ODH inspectors during audits, which may occur quarterly or every six months.
- Serve as a liaison between Cleveland Clinic and ODH throughout the inspection process.
- Implement appropriate measures when compliance issues or deficiencies are identified.
- Support regulatory quality assurance initiatives.
- Travel to various sites as needed while maintaining office space at Main Campus.
- Primarily support X-ray safety while also assisting with radioactive materials and laser safety.
- Identify problems, develop solutions and collaborate effectively with individuals across various departments and roles.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Associates degree in a safety/science technology area or an applicable health care area and five years of experience in a safety, healthcare, or science field
- OR Bachelor degree in a science, engineering, or safety field and three years of experience in a safety, healthcare, or science field
- Maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and have reliable transportation
- Ability to use/learn specific computer software applications, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, myDose
- Ability to cooperatively interact with clinical and administrative personnel
- English language proficiency
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a science, engineering, or safety field
- Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology
- American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification
- Health physics background
- Nuclear medicine experience
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. Ability to lift and transport up to 15 pounds. May require extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting. Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Laboratory coats and disposable gloves may need to be worn in certain areas.
- Lead apparel may need to be worn in certain areas where x-rays will be emitted during the course of their audit.
