Description

An established specialist paediatric pulmonology practice in the Eastern Cape is seeking a Medical Officer to provide clinical support in both hospital and outpatient settings.

This position is available on a full-time basis or initially for a six-month period, with the possibility of extension depending on the practice's ongoing requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with a specialist Paediatric Pulmonologist, assisting with the assessment, management and ongoing care of paediatric patients.

This opportunity would suit a Medical Officer with paediatric experience or an interest in paediatrics who is comfortable working in a busy clinical environment and enjoys being part of a specialist team.

Roles and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Conduct paediatric assessments and consultations under appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Attend to paediatric patients in hospital and assist with their ongoing management.
  • Assist with outpatient consultations and follow-up care.
  • Monitor patients and provide continuity of care.
  • Develop and implement appropriate management plans in consultation with the treating specialist.
  • Liaise with parents and caregivers regarding patients' conditions and treatment.
  • Liaise with other medical specialists and healthcare professionals when required.
  • Attend to referrals and follow-up consultations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
  • Assist with the day-to-day clinical workload of the practice.
  • Work collaboratively with the Paediatric Pulmonologist and practice team.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centred care.
  • Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and seek specialist input when required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Appropriate experience as a Medical Officer.
  • Previous paediatric experience would be advantageous.
  • Hospital-based experience would be beneficial.
  • Good clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with children and their parents or caregivers.
  • Ability to work independently while recognising when specialist input is required.

Contract: Full-time locum/fixed-term

Duration: Six months

Location: Eastern Cape

Extension: Possible, subject to ongoing practice requirements and mutual agreement
