Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Eyewear Specialist is responsible for assisting patients with the selection, ordering, fitting, and
adjustment of eyeglasses and optical products within an ophthalmology office. This role works closely
with ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and administrative staff to ensure seamless continuity
between clinical recommendations and optical services. The Eyewear Specialist ensures accurate
interpretation of prescriptions, provides professional product recommendations, manages inventory, and
delivers exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and
practice policies.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Certified Optician (ABO/NCLE) highly preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
· Prior customer service, retail, or administrative experience preferred.
· One or more years of optical experience, ideally in a medical or ophthalmology setting preferred.
· Knowledge of lens manufacturing, frame design, and insurance billing preferred.
· Experience with Medicare, vision plans (VSP, EyeMed), and private insurance preferred.
Skills:
· Basic understanding of optical terminology and prescription components.
· Strong communication skills and professional presentation.
· Proficiency with computers and willingness to learn optical software.
· Strong understanding of eyeglass measurements, adjustments, and repairs.
· Ability to interpret and problem-solve complex prescriptions.
· Familiarity with optical lab standards and workflows.
· Professional, friendly, and patient-focused demeanor.
· Excellent communication, listening, and relationship-building skills.
· Ability to handle sensitive or emotional conversations with empathy.
