About the Role
Bring your electrical expertise to one of Australia's largest aluminium smelters and play a key role in maintaining critical industrial infrastructure.
You'll be joining our Smelter Maintenance team as an Electrical Tradesperson, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. In this day shift role, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance and optimisation of electrical equipment across the Portland Aluminium Smelter.
You'll work closely with operations, maintenance and contractor teams to improve equipment reliability, maximise plant performance and uphold the highest standards of safety. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a complex industrial environment while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and mentoring developing tradespeople.
Key responsibilities include:
- Install, commission, recommission and test electrical equipment and systems
- Diagnose faults and provide practical, cost-effective solutions to equipment issues
- Perform electrical isolations, commissioning activities and operational handovers
- Undertake High Voltage switching and act as a Responsible Person supporting switchyard operations (where qualified)
- Prepare work scopes and coordinate maintenance and project activities
- Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to specification
- Audit work quality and support quality management system requirements
- Analyse maintenance data to identify reliability improvements and optimise equipment performance
- Coach and provide on-the-job training to apprentices and developing tradespeople
- Drive continuous improvement through the Alcoa Business System and reliability-focused maintenance practices

What you can bring to the role
- Recognised Electrical Trade qualification; Current Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capability within industrial environments
- Experience with PLCs, motor control systems and industrial automation (highly regarded)
- Well-developed problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, mining, resources or continuous processing operations
- Commitment to safe work practices and environmental compliance
- High Voltage switching experience or willingness to undertake training (highly regarded)
