Overview

The Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation provides comprehensive care for nearly 2,000 children and families each year. Children’s Mercy is focused on research that produces real results—like survival rates that beat the national average—for children with cancer, sickle cell disease, hemophilia and other blood disorders.

 

Children’s Mercy has a dedicated Family Care Team just for children and families who are receiving treatment for a hematology or oncology diagnosis. They bring together social, emotional and spiritual wellness resources to help you navigate life in the hospital and beyond.

 

Intermediate Care Registered Nurses provide advanced illness management and health promotion for patients who require intermediate acuity of care. Intermediate Care Registered Nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, family-centered and age appropriate nursing care for patients requiring high acuity management. Intermediate Care nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs. Intermediate Care Nurses coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the high acuity patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes.
• Meets the educational needs of the patient and family and advocates for their needs.
• Maintains an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family-centered
• Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree ADN Required.
  • Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. 
• Bachelor's Degree BSN preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013.
  • Nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. 
• One of the following required upon hire:
  • Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas
  • Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
    • Employees must obtain Licensed RN - KS or MO multistate within 90 days of hires
• Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
• Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $33.50/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
