Description
- Lead and direct FED’s engineering department.
- Ensure engineering policies, standards, and procedures meet safety, compliance, code, reliability, and cost-effectiveness requirements.
- Enforce employee compliance with safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Encourage workplace development, employee engagement, and succession planning within the engineering team.
- Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, professionalism, accountability, innovation, and customer service.
- Apply performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
- Provide professional development and technical training opportunities for engineering employees.
- Promote and maintain a productive and supportive work environment.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, legal requirements, and emerging technologies to improve engineering efficiency and reliability.
- Oversee technical aspects of vendor and contractor negotiations.
- Manage engineering budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify effectiveness.
- Research, develop, and implement engineering procedures and best practices.
- Develop strong relationships with City leaders, community stakeholders, and regulatory agencies on engineering matters.
- Collaborate with FED leadership on strategic planning, capital improvement projects, and long-term infrastructure initiatives.
- Report engineering performance and influencing factors to the FED Manager.
- Direct/lead engineering-related special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in the department’s engineering on-call rotation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
- State of Alabama Professional Engineering License (required)
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive, responsible engineering leadership experience in an electric utility (required).
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- TVPPA Power Distribution Engineer (PDE) certification (required).
- TVPPA Certified Power Executive Program certification; or, obtain within 5 years of hire date.
- TVPPA Advanced Certified Power Executive; or, obtain within 5 years of hire date.
- Experience, knowledge, and proficiency in utility technology and operational systems, Milsoft Utility Solutions software, and Microsoft Office Suite or related software (all required).
- Excellent written/verbal communication, networking, and team-building skills (required).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must adhere to all FED policies, procedures/practices, and safety standards.
- Must portray professionalism, accountability, and respect in all interactions.
- Must be able to perform all job duties safely without risk to self, others, or the public.
- Must be able to develop and execute strategic plans, manage budgets, and align with the department’s and City’s organizational goals.
- Must have strong and effective organizational, multitasking, and communication skills, with the ability to pay attention to detail and follow instructions.
- Must participate in required safety and training meetings.
- Must be able to work in varied environments (indoors/outdoors), such as noise, fumes, machinery, dust/dirt.
- Must have consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Required to work in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, rainy, windy, etc.)
This position oversees, manages, and provides leadership of the engineering division of the Florence Electricity Department, which includes: Staking Technicians, Engineers, GIS, Media/Website, Key Accounts, and TVA Energy rights and DER Programming. This position reports directly to the Manager, Florence Electricity Department.
Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations):
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time, including desk work.
- Work in adverse weather conditions.
Basic office equipment: computer, laptop, tablet.
