Position Summary:
The Product Manager, Gel Coats is responsible for driving the strategic and financial performance of the Gel Coats product line. This role leads product strategy, pricing, profitability, portfolio management, forecasting, and market development while working cross-functionally to maximize asset utilization and deliver competitive solutions that meet customer needs.
The Product Manager serves as a key connection point across Sales, Technology, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, and Quality, translating market and customer insights into actionable business priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Own product line performance, including price, volume, margin, product mix, and profitability.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term product strategies aligned with business objectives and market opportunities.
- Maintain strong market awareness, including customer needs, competitive activity, pricing, emerging applications, technology trends, and regulatory developments.
- Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities, risks, and attractive customer segments.
- Lead product line forecasting, anticipating changes in market demand, raw material costs, capacity, and other business drivers.
- Develop and manage pricing strategies and recommend pricing actions based on market conditions, costs, and profitability targets.
- Partner with Sales on pricing, contracts, product positioning, and resolution of significant customer quality or performance issues.
- Manage the product portfolio and prioritize product development and innovation projects based on market need, strategic fit, and financial return.
- Lead commercialization and New Product Introduction activities in partnership with Technology, Manufacturing, Sales, and other functions.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to optimize plant and product mix, asset utilization, inventory, and supply/demand balance.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability through cost reduction, product consolidation, product or raw material substitution, and manufacturing efficiencies.
- Develop business cases and recommendations for product investments, innovation projects, and capital needs.
- Provide senior leadership with regular insights on product line performance, market conditions, risks, and opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in product management, business management, or business development within chemicals, composites, coatings, resins, or material sciences.
- Demonstrated experience with product strategy, pricing, profitability, forecasting, market analysis, and product commercialization.
- Strong business and financial acumen with analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to understand manufacturing processes, technical product requirements, and supply chain considerations.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive initiatives through completion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365; SAP experience preferred.
