Description
Ascending.ltd is a manpower service provider that serves clients in various areas including in oil and gas.
We are currently looking for an experienced Able Seaman (AB) to work onboard of a M/V in Guyana.
Work Location: Suriname - Guyana
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in navigational watchkeeping duties as assigned.
- Assist the Officer of the Watch (OOW) during deck and navigational operations.
- Perform lookout duties when required.
- Assist with mooring and unmooring operations.
- Assist with anchoring and anchor-handling operations.
- Operate and maintain deck machinery and equipment as instructed.
- Carry out routine deck maintenance, including:
- Chipping and painting;
- Cleaning and washing;
- Greasing and lubrication;
- Rust removal;
- General deck housekeeping.
- Assist during cargo loading, discharging and securing operations.
- Handle ropes, wires, shackles, slings and other deck equipment safely.
- Assist with crane and lifting operations when authorized.
- Conduct inspections of deck equipment and report defects to the Bosun or Deck Officer.
- Assist in preparation of the vessel for arrival and departure.
- Participate in emergency drills and emergency response activities.
- Assist in firefighting, lifesaving and abandon-ship drills.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout assigned areas.
- Follow all vessel-specific procedures, risk assessments and permit-to-work requirements.
- Use PPE correctly and maintain safe working practices.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents and near misses.
- Support environmental protection procedures and prevent pollution.
- Comply with the vessel's Safety Management System (SMS).
- Perform other duties assigned by the Chief Officer, Bosun or Master.
Required Qualifications
Mandatory:
- Able Seafarer – Deck / Able Seaman Certificate of Proficiency (STCW II/5), where applicable.
- Certification as a Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (STCW II/4) or equivalent pathway as required by the flag administration.
- STCW Basic Safety Training.
- Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
- Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF)
- Elementary First Aid (EFA)
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
- Security Awareness Training (STCW VI/6)
- Seafarer Medical Fitness Certificate (STCW/MLC).
- Seaman's Book / Discharge Book.
- Passport.
- Relevant approved maritime training certificates.
- Relevant sea service experience.
Experience
Minimum recommended experience:
- 1–2 years of relevant sea service as an AB/Deck Rating.
- Previous experience on merchant vessels, offshore vessels, supply vessels, tankers, cargo vessels or other relevant vessels is an advantage.
- Offshore Oil & Gas experience is preferred for offshore assignments.
