Job Summary
Shambaugh & Son L.P. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical Process Group. This position will support the engineering and design of building mechanical utility systems and work closely with project teams and building trades throughout the Design-Build construction process.
The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering background and an interest in designing and supporting mechanical systems within a fast-paced construction environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Engineer and design building mechanical utility systems including steam, chilled water, compressed air, HVAC, medical gases, and plumbing.
- Apply applicable building and mechanical codes for projects across various jurisdictions.
- Participate in fast-track construction projects utilizing the Design-Build delivery method.
- Assist with the specification and ordering of mechanical equipment, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, fans, and air handling units.
- Assist with startup and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Collect field data on existing mechanical systems and assist in evaluating necessary upgrades.
- Coordinate and communicate with building trades, project teams, and other stakeholders as questions arise.
- Support project needs in both the office and field as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of relevant engineering, construction, or mechanical system design experience preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, utility, steam, and/or compressed air systems.
- Familiarity with Design-Build or fast-track construction environments is preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical information.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate with project teams and building trades.
- Food process or industrial construction experience is a plus.
- Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours or weekends when required.
