The Statler Hotel, located on Cornell University's campus, is renowned as "the premier hotel that teaches." It serves as the practical hotel operations laboratory for the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, providing students with hands-on experience in hospitality management. As a member of the Statler Hotel’s Front Office Team, you will create warm, genuine, and personalized experiences from the moment guests encounter our Bellstand to their exit while delivering a personalized level of service. Duties will include assisting guests with luggage to and from their vehicles and guest rooms; managing guest valet services to include maintaining information in the valet parking software, processing payment for day guest parking, and parking vehicles; and operating the hotel’s airport shuttle. Schedules are variable depending on business needs and may require evening, weekend, and holiday work hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loading and unloading guest luggage into their vehicle or shuttle van
- Delivering guest luggage to the guest's room; often this includes escorting the guest to their room, offering a luggage rack and setting up with their bag, using the journey to the room to share room familiarization details
- Providing valet services for all overnight, event and day guests; includes qualifying the reason for their visit, explaining procedures for requesting their vehicles, and the payment options.
- Operate guest vehicles with a high level of care and safety, ensure vehicles return to the owner in the condition that they were when we received them.
- Operate hotel vehicles, following all traffic safety laws, to transport guests to and from the Tompkins International Airport
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicles, keep the vehicles fueled and report any maintenance concerns.
- Provide guests a genuine sense of welcome and service, prompting opportunities for engagement rather than waiting for guests to seek them out
- Gather and share information from conversations that can be used to elevate experiences throughout the hotel
- Provide thorough and timely communication with other areas of the Front Office, as well as other hotel departments when pertinent.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- The ideal candidate is someone who is high energy and very passionate about providing hospitality and service. This individual takes pride in presenting a professional, well-groomed appearance and is motivated to be a valuable contributor to our team of professional and student staff.
- A Driver’s License is required along with a clean driving record. Candidate must be able to operate manual transmission vehicles.
- Capable of running quickly to obtain/deliver guest cares in a timely manner
- Capable of standing for long periods of time
- Able to grasp, bend, stoop, and push/pull heavy loads weighing up to 75 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with training peers to perform job tasks.
- Experience driving vehicles with 9-15 passenger capacities
