Description
HOH Water Technology is a third-generation, family-owned water treatment company proudly celebrating over 58 years in business. Our success has always been about more than water treatment. It is about investing in people and creating lasting impact for our clients, coworkers, and community. We believe our people are our greatest competitive advantage, and we have built a culture centered around our Core Values of Accountability, Creativity, Teamwork, and Service.
We are looking for a Service Technology & Data Manager who wants to own the technical execution layer of HOH's service technology and data ecosystem. This role combines hands-on software and systems engineering, platform ownership, vendor management, and field enablement to turn the ideas of our Product Managers and Technical Solutions Manager into working, adopted technology.
About the Role
This is a technical, individual-contributor role on our Technical Services team, reporting to the Product & Technical Operations Manager. This seat owns the platform of record used for field testing and customer-facing service reporting, and builds the digital and data infrastructure that turns ideas from Product Managers and the Technical Solutions Manager into working reality — whether that's a new reporting standard, a connected view across water analysis, financial, and remote IoT (Internet of Things) data, or an early-warning signal worth catching before it becomes a customer problem.
Product Managers and the Technical Solutions Manager bring the water treatment domain expertise to say what should be built and why it matters to the customer; this seat brings the software, data, and systems engineering capability to determine what's feasible and make it real — architecting the solution, building or integrating it, and keeping the resulting technology adopted and delivering value in the field. This is the seat that keeps HOH's technology and data ambitions from stalling at “good idea” — it is where strategy becomes shipped, working product.
You will:
- Own the platform of record for field testing and customer-facing service reporting, keeping it reliable, current, and fit for how HOH delivers service.
- Partner with Product Managers to develop and maintain the standard for how service reports are structured, then hold the organization accountable to it.
- Lead platform-to-platform transitions end-to-end, including customer data migration, historical reporting continuity, and testing.
- Bring together field controller, water analysis, financial, and IoT data into one coherent, connected view.
- Assess technical feasibility for AI-enabled data strategy — such as predictive service signals and automated insights — and own the build and integration work.
- Develop and drive adoption plans for the service platform and related tools, serving as the field's go-to technical resource.
- Maintain hands-on command of HOH's digital and data architecture, doing light programming and integration work personally.
- Select the right outside vendor or developer for a given job and manage that engagement from scope through delivery.
- Ability to report to our Palatine, Illinois office as needed.
What We Offer
- Competitive Compensation: $100,000-130,000 annual salary based on experience
- Comprehensive Benefits: Medical and Dental Insurance with generous employer contributions, HSA contributions, 401(k) with company matching, Life Insurance, and much more.
- Generous Time Off: PTO and paid holidays, including HOH's year-end holiday break.
- Profit Sharing Bonus: Participate in our company-wide profit-sharing program.
- Engaging Culture: Caring leaders who invest in people and create meaningful opportunities for growth and connection.
- Career Growth: Ongoing professional development, technical training, industry education, and leadership development opportunities.
You'll Love This Role If…
- You can turn domain ideas into shipped software. You find the technically feasible path to what Product Managers and the Technical Solutions Manager envision, even when the obvious approach doesn't exist yet.
- You think like a systems architect, not a point-solution builder. You see how disconnected data sources fit together architecturally and build toward one coherent system.
- You manage vendors and projects with discipline. You can scope technical work accurately, select the right partner, and hold vendors accountable to HOH's timeline and quality bar.
- You're a translator, not a gatekeeper. You take a domain idea expressed in water treatment terms and turn it into a buildable requirement, without ego about whose idea it was.
- You treat “built” and “done” as different things. You plan for training, rollout, and field reference materials as part of the deliverable, not an afterthought.
- You hold yourself accountable for what ships. You own whether platform and integration commitments actually ship — on scope, on time, and working in the field — and surface risk early.
What You'll Be Doing
Service Platform Ownership
- Own the platform of record for field testing and customer-facing service reporting, ensuring it remains reliable, current, and fit for how HOH delivers service.
- Partner with Product Managers to develop and maintain the standard for how service reports are structured, teaching them what the platform can do, then hold the organization accountable to it once set.
- Maintain expert-level command of the platform's full feature set, and drive the vendor relationship to expand, fix, or prioritize what HOH actually needs.
- Lead platform-to-platform transitions end-to-end: customer data migration, historical reporting continuity, and testing — so transitions happen without disrupting the field or losing data integrity.
Field Data Strategy & Analytics
- Partner with Product Managers and the Technical Solutions Manager to define how field controller data is captured, trended, and put to use — turning their domain expertise into a real data pipeline.
- Bring together adjacent data sources — water analysis, financial/margin data, remote IoT data — into one coherent, connected view rather than siloed systems.
- Assess technical feasibility for AI-enabled data strategy that Product Managers and the Technical Solutions Manager identify as valuable, and own the build and integration work once direction is set.
Adoption & Field Enablement
- Develop and drive active implementation and adoption plans for the service platform and related tools — treating “built” and “adopted” as two different jobs.
- Serve as the field's go-to technical resource for platform use, data interpretation, and reporting standards, resolving issues that would otherwise stall adoption.
- Build training and reference materials that reduce reliance on tribal knowledge, so consistency doesn't depend on any one person's memory.
Technical & Architecture Execution
- Maintain working command of HOH's digital and data architecture, with the hands-on ability to do light programming and integration work personally.
- Determine when a technical effort requires outside help, select the right vendor or developer, and manage that engagement from scope through completion and delivery.
- Apply disciplined software development and project management practices to platform and integration work, so technical projects are predictable rather than ad hoc.
Strategic & Business Leadership
- Connect platform and data decisions to business strategy and value creation, for external customers and internal teams alike.
- Report on platform adoption, data utilization, and business impact to the Manager, Product & Technical Operations and broader leadership.
- Apply water treatment industry context to sharpen judgment on which data and features actually matter to service outcomes, in partnership with Product Managers and the Technical Solutions Manager.
What Success Looks Like
- Platform migration milestones hit on schedule during the first two to three quarters (100% target).
- Service reports consistently meet the platform reporting standard (=95%).
- Active accounts have field controller/IoT data reviewed on a defined trending cadence (=80%).
- New cross-source data integrations delivered each quarter (=1), with platform capabilities regularly evaluated for adoption.
- Vendor and developer technical projects consistently delivered on scope and on time (=90%).
- Training and reference materials for field platform use created or updated each quarter (=2).
Why HOH?
At HOH, you will have the opportunity to build the technical backbone behind one of our most important growth areas, while working alongside a leadership team that genuinely cares about people. This role offers true ownership of HOH's service technology and data ecosystem, the chance to become the default technical execution partner our Product Managers and Technical Solutions Manager turn to, and real influence over how our technology and data ambitions become shipped, working product.
You'll join a growing, privately held Certified Evergreen company with a strong culture, long-term stability, and a commitment to investing in people, innovation, and sustainable growth for generations to come.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on ability to do light programming and integration work personally, not just direct others to do it, with enough platform architecture knowledge to know what's actually feasible.
- Experience scoping technical work accurately, selecting the right outside vendor or developer, and managing engagements from statement of work through delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to take a domain idea — expressed in non-technical terms — and turn it into a buildable requirement without needing it handed over fully specified.
- Systems thinking: experience seeing how disconnected data sources fit together architecturally and building toward one coherent system rather than one-off point solutions.
- A track record of planning for training, rollout, and adoption as part of a technical deliverable, not an afterthought.
- Enough water treatment or related industrial-services domain familiarity to sanity-check which data and features matter to service outcomes, or demonstrated ability to build this knowledge quickly.
- Proficiency with the ERP, CRM, IoT, and reporting platforms relevant to this role.
