Job Description Summary & Additional Information
Organizational Summary Statement:
Under direct supervision, functions as a lead worker , prepares and serves simple menu items according to specified standard recipes, and performs food service, sanitation, and kitchen maintenance activities.
Preferences:
- Ability to coordinate large scale catering logistics and delivery; and to expedite and lead front of house service teams required.
- Outstanding guest service skills experience.
- Ability to operate a cash register.
- Experience in a high volume quick service restaurant.
- Barista Experience.
- Must follow all UMD & PG County and State policies and procedures.
- Must work UMD special events, such as football Saturdays.

Additional Certifications: Must have, or obtain within 90 days of hire, and maintain, ServSafe Certification
Physical Demands:
This is an essential position and incumbent must report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency situations. Must be able to work a variable schedule including weekends,nights, evenings, and holidays. Annual leave will not be granted for specific periods including the weeks preceding the start of each semester, Maryland Day, Family Weekend or special events. Must be able to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Must be able to work in extreme weather and temperature conditions including regularly working between 40 degrees and 90 degrees for extended periods and from 15 below zero degrees to 40 degrees and from 90 degrees to 110 degrees for short periods of time. Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
EXPERIENCE: One year in food service.
OTHER:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of food preparation methods; of portion control standards; of related sanitation regulations and practices. Skill in operating food service equipment and appliances; in using kitchen utensils. Ability to assist in preparing and serving food; to provide guidance to other food service aides; to read and write; to perform basic arithmetic computations; to operate assigned kitchen equipment; to keep records on food usage; to prepare simple reports; to work in irritating environments and adverse temperature conditions; to follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively; to lift, transport and stock food service supplies, materials and equipment.
OTHER:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Safe Food Handling and Sanitation Certification may be required.
