The role

The MDM Data Steward will work under the supervision of the GBS Master Data Management Team Lead and act as the operational custodian of master data across the Customer, Vendor, Product/Material and Finance (GL) master data domains for TMICC markets. The role is central to the transition of local market MDM activities from Unilever to TMICC GBS under the local Transition Service Agreements (TSAs): the Data Steward will absorb, standardize and run master data creation, maintenance, approval-support, quality and governance activities currently performed in local markets (including Belgium, Netherlands, France, Greece, Spain, Sweden, Poland, the UK & Ireland, Romania and the CEE cluster), and will support TSA exit, knowledge transfer (KT), data cleansing and data migration into the target SAP MDG landscape. The Data Steward ensures that master data is accurate, complete, consistent, compliant and delivered on time – protecting End-to-End data integrity across processes and the IT landscape, and enabling reliable Order-to-Cash, Source-to-Pay, Make-to-Market and Record-to-Report operations.

What you'll be responsible for

1. Master Data Operations & Stewardship (Customer, Product/Material MD)

  • Execute end-to-end creation, modification, extension, blocking and deactivation of Customer, Vendor (including non-trade customers), Product/Material and Finance (GL) master data records, and dependent data (prices, material costs), in SAP / SAP MDG per agreed SLAs and data standards.
  • Coordinate customer master data set-up requests across markets, ensuring complete and validated business inputs (including business sign-off) before execution, and routing approvals correctly – respecting that certain approvals (e.g., UK&I customer accounts) must remain with a TMICC direct employee as an audit requirement.
  • Support the Material-to-Market (M2M) process with product master data stewardship: product master creation, enrichment, external product data management (EPDM), pricing and costing data coordination with the relevant owners (e.g., Pricing and NPD Costing teams).
  • Maintain segregation of duties (SoD) between data creation and data approval in all workflows.
  • Support EDI-related master data activities where bundled with MDM scope (e.g., customer EDI onboarding, set-up and maintenance data).
  • Maintain and reconcile master-data-relevant system interfaces, resolving interface exceptions with IT and the 3PSP where required.

2. Data Quality & Compliance

  • Monitor data quality KPIs (completeness, accuracy, uniqueness, timeliness) against defined thresholds; run duplicate detection (e.g., duplicate vendor/customer checks) and drive remediation.
  • Apply and help maintain data quality rules and validation checks (mandatory fields such as DUNS number, Tax ID, bank keys; format and length rules; value sets) as defined by Business Information Experts (BIEs) and Domain Leads.
  • Act as first reviewer of the data defect log – triage, allocate defects to the right owners (BIE/BPE/IT BA), track resolution and prevent recurrence through root-cause analysis.
  • Enforce master data governance policies, retention rules, access controls and compliance/audit controls in daily operations; provide data extracts and information to support internal and external audits.
  • Use enrichment sources (e.g., D&B / Dun & Bradstreet) to complete and validate vendor/customer records.

3. TSA Exit, Knowledge Transfer & Data Migration Support

  • Participate in market deep-dives to document local MDM activity lists, role scopes and ownership matrices ahead of transition (e.g., Sweden, Spain activity-split alignment, Belgium/Netherlands residual approval scope).
  • Receive knowledge transfer from local market teams and Unilever/3PSP counterparts following structured KT plans (typically 6–8 weeks KT, ramp-up and hypercare/run phases), and document standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Support data migration preparation and execution for the SAP MDG greenfield implementation: source-to-target mapping validation, relevancy/source rules, value mapping and harmonization, pre-load data quality checks, and analysis of pre-/post-load reports with the Data Migration Expert (DME) to resolve mismatches and exceptions.
  • Verify no residual MDM activities remain in sending markets at TSA exit and flag gaps or net-new scope to the MDM Team Lead.

4. Third-Party Service Provider (3PSP) & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work day-to-day with the 3PSP execution teams (e.g., Genpact) on MDM creation and maintenance for the CEE cluster and other markets; monitor 3PSP output quality, SLAs and KPIs, and escalate performance issues to GBS MDM operations management.
  • Act as liaison between local market/business contacts, MDM coordinators, Business Process Owners/Experts, IT Business Analysts and the GBS MDM team for queries, issues and change requests.
  • Communicate status, data quality insights and improvement opportunities clearly to stakeholders across levels and geographies; build trusted relationships with sending markets during and after transition.

5. Governance, Standardization & Continuous Improvement

  • Uphold the enterprise data model, business glossary, metadata definitions and value sets for the assigned domains; document data definitions and process flows using standard templates and tools within Enterprise Information Management.
  • Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of MDM processes and SAP MDG workflows; identify and promote standardization, automation and simplification opportunities.
  • Support the MDM function set-up in GBS: help define workflows, contribute to capability building, and mentor new team members as the team scales.

We're looking for someone who

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech/B.E./B.Com or equivalent) required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3–6+ years of hands-on experience in master data operations / data stewardship across one or more of the Customer, Vendor, Material/Product or Finance data domains, ideally in a GBS/shared services or FMCG environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP master data objects and transactions (SAP MM/SD/FI vendor, customer, material and GL master data); hands-on SAP MDG experience (workflows, change requests, data quality rules) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience supporting data migration and cleansing activities (source-to-target mapping, value mapping, pre-/post-load validation) in ERP transformation programs.
  • Experience of transitions/knowledge transfer of processes into shared services, and of working with third-party service providers (e.g., Genpact), is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks and concepts (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK: data quality, metadata, data ownership, stewardship) and of compliance requirements (SoD, audit controls, data retention, access management).
  • Knowledge of E2E business processes that consume master data: Order-to-Cash, Source-to-Pay, Make-to-Market/Plan-to-Deliver, Record-to-Report.
  • Advanced Excel capability (lookups, pivots, data profiling of large datasets); experience with data quality/profiling tools is a plus.
  • Exposure to EDI set-up, D&B enrichment services, or procurement platforms (e.g., Ivalua) integrating with SAP vendor master is a plus.
  • Experience with agile ways of working / DevOps is a plus.

What you'll get

Alongside meaningful work and strong development, we offer a reward package that typically includes

  • Market-competitive pay and performance related rewards
  • Flexible ways of working
  • Support for health, wellbeing and life outside of work
  • Time off to rest and recharge
