Job Summary Design electrical hardware for printed circuit board assemblies used in harsh-environment Layer 2/3 Industrial Ethernet switches. Lead hardware verification, lifecycle support, and manufacturing input to ensure reliable, low-overhead production that meets commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Layer 2/3 access and distribution network switches for power utilities, oil & gas, industrial automation, railway/roadway transportation, and outdoor applications.
- Create DIN-rail and pizza-box designs with natural convection cooling (-40°C to 75°C ambient), high EMC immunity, and 4 kV lightning surge protection.
- Develop interfaces including 24/48 VDC power entry, 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet, PoE (up to IEEE 802.3bt), and fiber uplinks (100Base-FX through 10G).
- Perform digital, analog, low-voltage power, PoE, and embedded CPU/SoC design (DDR3/4, Flash) using Ethernet switch and PHY ICs.
- Write functional/detailed specs, manufacturing and designer test plans; interpret requirements; select components; perform power/thermal calculations.
- Guide PCB layout for high-speed and EMC compliance; collaborate on stack-ups, DFM/DFT, bring-up, system testing, and issue resolution.
- Provide weekly status, peer design reviews, field/factory troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.
Supervisory May lead and direct the work of others.
Qualifications
- 6+ years analog/digital design experience, including 24/48 VDC and low-voltage power design.
- Required: Embedded CPU/microprocessor/SoC design; networking design (1G/10G Ethernet copper & optical, switching, PHYs).
- Experience with industrial-temperature and harsh outdoor product design; Class A/B EMI compliance; PCB layout techniques for high-speed and EMI.
- Proficient in schematic entry; strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently, mentor juniors, prioritize effectively, and collaborate across teams.
- Programmable logic experience is a plus.
