Junior Estimator
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Junior Civil Works Estimator to join their head office team. This opportunity is ideal for a suitably qualified and experienced professional with a strong background in civil construction. The successful candidate will have experience in the construction of water treatment works, wastewater treatment works, water-retaining concrete structures, and both large and small diameter pipeline infrastructure. This junior-level role offers the opportunity to contribute to the preparation of accurate cost estimates and support the successful delivery of civil engineering projects.
Responsibilities & Skills:
- Analyse and evaluate tender documentation, contract requirements, and associated risks.
- Compile detailed, accurate, and competitive tender submissions.
- Prepare cost estimates for materials, labour, plant, equipment, and transport.
- Develop and maintain construction programmes and timelines using industry-standard planning software.
- Prepare Preliminary and General (P&G) cost schedules based on project scope and programme.
- Source, obtain, and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Interpret engineering drawings and perform accurate quantity take-offs.
- Collaborate with construction managers, planners, engineers, and other internal stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits to support accurate pricing and determine appropriate construction methodologies.
- Monitor industry regulations, market trends, pricing fluctuations, and best practices.
- Present tender submissions to the tender finalisation committee and clients.
- Ensure all tender submissions are completed accurately and submitted within strict deadlines while working effectively under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. (Candidates with a Quantity Surveying qualification will also be considered.)
- Minimum of 1–3 years' experience in civil construction, including site-based experience.
- At least 1–2 years' experience in a dedicated Estimating role.
- Proficiency in CCS (Candy) software (non-negotiable).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using relevant estimating and project planning software.
