Key Responsibilities

As the Civil Design Technologist, CADD Design, you will play a key role in producing accurate engineering designs and drafting packages that support municipal infrastructure and land development projects from concept through completion.

Technical Design & Drafting

• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, figures, and construction documentation using AutoCAD Civil 3D for a variety of land development and municipal infrastructure projects.
• Apply technical design expertise to support projects through preliminary engineering, detailed design, and final construction documentation.
• Develop site grading plans, earthwork volume calculations, and design layouts that meet project objectives and engineering requirements.
• Review design drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, quality, and compliance with applicable drafting standards.
• Refine and update designs to satisfy municipal, provincial, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Delivery & Coordination

• Support project execution by delivering high-quality drafting and design work within established schedules and project budgets.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, project managers, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated project delivery.
• Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, municipal representatives, and other stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.
• Assist with planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Quality Assurance & Standards

• Ensure all drawings and design documentation comply with municipal and provincial drafting standards, including City of Edmonton requirements where applicable.
• Perform quality control reviews prior to submission to maintain consistency, accuracy, and technical excellence across all deliverables.
• Identify opportunities to improve drafting workflows and promote efficient CADD production practices.

Collaboration & Mentorship

• Share technical knowledge and best practices with junior technologists and drafting staff to support their professional growth.
• Foster a collaborative team environment by contributing ideas, supporting colleagues, and promoting continuous learning.
• Build strong working relationships across internal teams and external project stakeholders to achieve successful project delivery.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Civil Engineering Technology diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Registration as a Professional Licensee (P.L. Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), or Professional Technologist (P.Tech) in Alberta.
• Minimum of eight years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, with a strong background in land development and municipal infrastructure projects.

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, including drafting, site grading, earthwork calculations, and drawing production.
• Strong understanding of municipal engineering design principles related to roads, stormwater systems, sanitary sewer systems, water distribution, drainage infrastructure, and land development.
• Familiarity with municipal and provincial engineering design and drafting standards, particularly within the Edmonton region.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, and other industry-standard design software.
