Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver has been serving Northern Colorado since 1927. We serve tens of thousands of people each year in seven ministries: Marisol Services, Early Childhood Education, Shelter Services, Catholic Charities Housing, St. Raphael Counseling, Family, Kinship, and Senior Services; and Parish & Community Engagement.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

A School Counselor at Catholic Charities:

  • Provide individual and/or group counseling for students, aligned with the Multi-Tiered System of Support.
  • Provide coordination, consultation, referral and informational services to staff, parents, and students, by attending grade level meetings as needed.
  • Plan and facilitate the delivery of the school’s social-emotional learning curriculum.
  • Collaborative problem-solving with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Consult and collaborate with the special education or school resource teacher regarding necessary student behavioral or emotional supports.
  • Act as an advocate for students.
  • Serve as a resource for ideas and strategies that promote student achievement and overall success within the classroom setting and beyond.
  • Gather, interpret, and evaluate data for program modification and interventions, as needed.
  • Plan and present professional development to staff on topics related to youth and family mental health.
  • Plan and present parent presentations on topics related to youth and family mental health.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences for academic and behavioral issues, when appropriate.
  • Select, administer, and interpret various tests such as rating scales and behavioral/academic screeners commensurate with testing qualification level to provide additional information pertaining to academic/emotional needs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation in program development and service delivery
  • Possesses advanced skills in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations and problem-solving
  • Possesses good organizational skills, is a self-starter and team player
  • Ability to work effectively within the framework of Catholic teaching, can understand and convey to others the values and social teachings of the Catholic Church as they relate to the individual’s inherent dignity
  • Recognizes and supports the unique mission of the Catholic school
  • Gives evidence of lived gospel values by participating in a faith community and striving to be an example of Jesus Christ in attitude and example
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, staff, administration, and families
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, is flexible, energetic, and can work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the cultural/linguistic differences of staff, students, Agency, and community and can adapt practices to the student population


Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university in school counseling, social work, clinical counseling or equivalent; Experience working in a school setting is preferred.


MINISTERIAL REQUIREMENTS

Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and/or intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043). Refrain from public promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Holds a professional license in school counseling or clinical mental health or is qualified to pursue one
  • Ability to complete the Safe Environment (Virtus) Training and a background check
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License, satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and proof of insurance

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

$60,000-$70,000 annually


Training: We provide a robust training curriculum that will support our employees throughout their career. Training provided within the first year of employment includes: De-escalation & Safety;Mental Health First Aid; Substance Abuse & Mental Health; Human Trafficking; Trauma Informed Care; and many more.

  • Full Time Position
  • Extensive Paid Time Off (4 weeks accrual for new employees - increasing based on tenure) promoting work life balance.
  • 15 Paid Holidays annually (shelters are 24/7, so if a holiday is worked, holiday pay is included.) Sabbatical Leave Program: Employees who have completed seven years of continuous full-time service are eligible for a paid sabbatical leave to support rest, renewal, and professional or personal growth. Eligible staff may take 4 weeks of sabbatical leave.
  • 403b Retirement Plan with Agency contribution of 4% & match up to 2% of annual compensation.
  • Choice of 3 PPO Medical Plans (90% of employee's and 75% of dependent’s premiums is paid by Agency), Dental, & Vision starting the 1st day of the month following start date.
  • May be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through Federal Student Loans and many more benefits.

**Part-time employees (20-29 hours per week) also receive paid annual leave, company paid holidays, and 403b retirement plan with agency contribution and match.
