Position Overview
The Manager, Talent Selection is an experienced individual contributor responsible for executing enterprise-wide selection strategies that enable CarMax to hire or promote high-performing talent at scale. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, this role translates strategy into actionable, high-quality selection solutions across the organization.
This role partners closely with HR, Legal, Technology, internal business partners, and external vendors to design and implement assessment solutions. In addition to consulting on solution design, the Manager will own end-to-end execution of selection programs, including interview design, case study development, implementation of assessment tools, the use of AI, and continuous innovation of existing selection tools. As a trusted internal consultant, this individual will provide expert guidance on selection best practices, interpret aggregate assessment insights and trends, and ensure consistent, high-quality experiences across the enterprise.

Team Overview
Embedded within the Talent Management Team, the Talent Selection team is responsible for creating best-in-class selection processes that are fair, effective, and scalable. While organizationally part of Talent Management, the team supports enterprise-wide initiatives in Talent Acquisition and Talent Management. This role contributes to programs that impact approximately 28,000 associates, ensuring selection tools, assessments, interviews, and related strategies deliver exceptional business results. The Manager collaborates cross-functionally and partners with external experts to deliver innovative and compliant assessment solutions.
Role Responsibilities
Execute enterprise-wide talent selection strategies, ensuring alignment with business goals and hiring needs
Design, develop, update, and implement structured interview guides, case studies, and assessment tools
Partner with external vendors to support validation studies, new product evaluations, and assessment implementation
Serve as a trusted internal consultant to managers and stakeholders, providing expertise on assessment best practices for hiring and talent management processes
Lead execution of large-scale selection initiatives, managing timelines, technology implementations or changes, dependencies, and cross-functional coordination
Support the integration of AI and automation within Talent Acquisition and Talent Management processes
Acts as a support liaison between the business, Workday Technology teams, and vendors, specifically for break-fixes
Translate assessment results and vendor insights into actionable recommendations for stakeholders
Conduct data analysis on aggregate assessment trends to inform decision-making and identify opportunities for improvement
Develop communication materials, training, and documentation to support assessment changes, implementation, and adoption
Ensure compliance with legal and organizational standards in all selection processes
Continuously evaluate and enhance selection processes to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and candidate experience
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or related field OR 5 years of experience with psychometric assessments
At least 4 years of experience in talent assessment, talent development, or talent management
Strong internal consulting skills, with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders at multiple levels
Demonstrated experience executing complex, enterprise-level projects with minimal oversight
Strong project management and execution skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex or technical concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications
2–3 years of consulting experience
1–2 years of data analysis experience, including interpreting workplace assessment trends and business impact
Experience working with external vendors on assessment validation and implementation
Experience working in cross-functional teams, especially Technology and Legal, to deliver enterprise-level initiatives
Familiarity with AI and automation applications and best practices within Talent Acquisition and Talent Management
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center. Associates based in Richmond work onsite 4 days per week.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

The annual salary for this position is:
$86,800.00 - $138,900.00May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Benefits:
Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
- To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
- For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
