Position: Backhoe Operator
We are seeking for an experienced Backhoe Operator to join our team in Mashonaland West (Zimbabwe).
Operational Responsibilities
Operate backhoe loaders safely and efficiently to perform excavation, trenching, loading, backfilling, leveling, and material handling tasks.
Follow excavation plans, supervisor instructions, and design levels to achieve required grades and trench specifications.
Excavate trenches for drainage, utilities, dewatering systems, and infrastructure works within mining operations.
Load trucks, place materials, and assist with stockpile management as required.
Assist in building and maintaining access roads, berms, work pads, and drainage channels.
Conduct daily pre-start inspections and promptly report any faults, leaks, or maintenance issues.
Maintain the backhoe equipment clean, organized, and in proper working condition through basic housekeeping and regular checks.
Work in coordination with other heavy equipment operators to ensure smooth material flow and efficient site operations.
Operate attachments such as buckets, hydraulic breakers, augers, or forks as required by the project.
Safety Responsibilities
Attend daily pre-start meetings and toolbox talks.
Perform visual safety checks before operating machinery and report any defects immediately.
Operate equipment only within authorized work zones and according to established safety procedures.
Maintain awareness of ground conditions, overhead hazards, and nearby personnel or equipment.
Comply with EPSA’s safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
Immediately report unsafe conditions, near-miss incidents, or accidents to your supervisor.
Environmental Responsibilities
Comply with EPSA’s environmental policies and practices.
Ensure excavation and loading activities are conducted with minimal environmental impact.
Prevent spills or contamination when working near fuel lines, water systems, or sensitive areas.
Maintain proper housekeeping in the work area.
Qualifications
Secondary education certificate or equivalent.
Valid heavy equipment operating license.
Training in mine safety procedures.
At least 5 years’ experience working in remote or international locations with similar equipment.
Ability to read and interpret operational instructions.
Experience working in open-pit mining operations.
Familiarity with GPS or grade-control systems.
Experience working in remote or international project sites.
