Underwriter - P&C
Location: Birmingham
Reporting to: Underwriting Manager
Overview
We are currently hiring for an Underwriter in our Birmingham office to manage and assess risk within a defined portfolio while delivering high-quality underwriting and broker service.
What You’ll Be Doing
Risk assessment: Evaluate applications and determine acceptability in line with underwriting guidelines and standards.
Pricing & coverage: Recommend pricing and coverage structures based on risk analysis and market conditions.
Broker engagement: Build and manage relationships with brokers, responding to queries and communicating decisions clearly.
Portfolio management: Analyse portfolio performance including quality, profitability, and exposure trends.
Collaboration: Work closely with senior underwriters on complex risks and support wider underwriting initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
Underwriting knowledge: Strong understanding of insurance principles and underwriting practices.
Analytical thinking: Ability to assess risk and make informed, commercially sound decisions.
Communication skills: Clear and professional written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Relationship building: Confidence working with brokers and internal teams to build strong partnerships.
Technical capability: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting systems.
