Responsibilities & Qualifications

Tunnel Refurbishment Technician 

 

Position Summary

The Equipment Reliability Team is responsible for executing inspections, repairs, and refurbishment activities on industrial tunnel washers throughout the ImageFIRST network. As the organization's subject matter experts for tunnel systems, the team is dedicated to improving equipment reliability, extending asset life, and maximizing operational uptime.

Because tunnel systems are critical production assets, the majority of maintenance activities will be performed during non-production hours, including nights and weekends, to minimize operational disruption. Team members are expected to safely complete corrective repairs and refurbishment work within scheduled maintenance windows while ensuring each tunnel system is fully operational and production-ready before the start of the next operating shift.

 

This position requires advanced mechanical aptitude, strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Team members will travel to ImageFIRST facilities nationwide, collaborate with local maintenance teams, and promote standardized maintenance practices that improve the long-term reliability and performance of tunnel systems.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Corrective Maintenance

• Perform corrective maintenance on industrial tunnel washer systems.
• Execute planned refurbishment activities, including the replacement and rebuilding of mechanical components.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment failures.
• Replace and install components such as bearings, chains, sprockets, shafts, motors, gearboxes, rollers, cylinders, valves, conveyors, and other tunnel system components.
• Perform equipment inspections to identify wear, damage, and potential reliability concerns before failures occur.

 

Reliability & Equipment Performance

• Restore tunnel systems to safe, reliable operating condition within scheduled maintenance windows.
• Verify proper equipment operation through functional testing prior to returning equipment to production.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce future downtime.
• Assist in implementing standardized repair methods and best practices across all facilities.
• Report recurring equipment issues and recommend long-term corrective actions.

 

Safety & Quality

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Maintain a clean and organized work area before, during, and after maintenance activities.
• Utilize proper tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Ensure repairs meet company quality standards and manufacturer specifications.
• Documentation & Communication
• Accurately document completed work, labor hours, and repair findings within the company's CMMS.
• Communicate repair status, equipment condition, and recommendations to the Tunnel Reliability Lead Technician and plant maintenance leadership.
• Participate in post-repair reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Travel & Teamwork

• Travel to ImageFIRST facilities as required to support scheduled maintenance, emergency repairs, and refurbishment projects.
• Work collaboratively with local maintenance and production teams to complete projects efficiently.
• Participate in overnight and weekend maintenance activities to minimize production downtime.
• Maintain flexibility to support changing project schedules and business needs.

 

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

• Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
• Fast paced environment that may require some irregular or long hours.
• Ability to travel to locations to assist with equipment installation when required.
• Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, operating a forklift, grasping, moving equipment, pushing, pulling, reading, speaking, and hearing.
• Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 30 pounds.
• Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
