JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Laboratory Technologist I, Microbiology REPORTS TO: QC Supervisor
POSITION PURPOSE
Responsible for the microbiological testing and documentation process of water (purified and potable), raw materials, in-process, finished products, environmental samples and samples for special projects following established procedures and techniques.
Perform job functions in accordance with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), federal and state laws, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, health authority regulations, and departmental processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this position successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
1. Performs microbiological testing following aseptic techniques and established procedures in conformance with the official material specifications, analytical procedures and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures to meet quality and accuracy requirements.
2. Document the results in logbooks, laboratory notebooks or working papers according to established procedures.
3. Reports raw data and performs calculations and collects/prepares data for evaluation. 4. Interprets and evaluates the analyses in terms of accuracy and precision and conformance to
established criteria. Anticipates, identifies and solves problems related to laboratory analysis. 5. Applies existing techniques and procedures and may recommend and implement
modifications for improved efficiency, or devise and develop new microbiological methods and techniques.
6. Reviews and evaluates microbiological reports of raw materials, in-process finished products, stability samples and/or special projects that meet quality standards.
7. Assures that laboratory equipment is maintained in proper working conditions and verifies the calibration date of laboratory instruments according to SOP’s and informs any malfunction to the laboratory Team Leader.
8. Prepares and checks all culture media and reagents used in the laboratory for microbiological processes in order to ensure their compliance with compendial and standard procedures.
9. Conducts environmental sampling as part of the Environmental Monitoring Program and special projects following established procedures and aseptic techniques.
10. Maintains all stock organisms used to prepare control samples and to perform the quality control of culture media.
11. Utilizes computerized laboratory system (LIMS) or working paper to process microbiological results and record the values on the reports provided.
12. Follows procedures for the handling, movement, and disposal of samples. 13. Follows laboratory housekeeping procedures.

14. Notifies the Team Leader/ Supervisor or designee of any Out of specification or Questionable results and participates in the laboratory investigations.
15. Conducts safety talks or training and is acquainted with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) which must be read before using a reagent.
16. Ensures compliance with data integrity principles and documentation procedures. 17. Ensures Controlled Substance is managed as per Regulation requirements and following
procedure instructions. 18. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS The qualifications listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
KNOWLEDGE • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, testing and techniques. • Laboratory General Rules • Glassware Handling • Laboratory Sfety Rules
SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Ability to read and write in English and Spanish. Bilingual (English/Spanish). • Team collaboration. • Willing to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays when necessary. • Attention to details. • Ability to work under pressure. • Ability to use Microsoft office.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• BS Degree in Biology, Microbiology and/or Medical Technology and 0 to 3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS (None).
LANGUAGE SKILLS Basic Ability to read and interpret general business documents. Ability to write routine reports and general business correspondence. Ability to work with peers and communicate basic concepts.
