Description

REMOTE • CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES

Inclusion • Community Engagement • Cooperatives

Do you enjoy building inclusive cultures, fostering meaningful community connections, and creating strategies that advance equity, belonging, inclusion, and accessibility (EBIA)? We are looking for an Equity, Inclusion & Community Engagement manager to provide thought leadership and lead initiatives that strengthen NCG's commitment to EBIA while supporting member co-ops in creating more inclusive workplaces, engaged communities, and stronger connections with the people they serve.

Come join National Co+op Grocers' (NCG) collective movement towards a just, resilient and regenerative food system that is accessible for all! We are a business services cooperative that helps community-owned grocery stores thrive-strengthening local economies, promoting sustainable food systems, and empowering consumers. We are revolutionizing the grocery industry to make it work better for people and the planet!

This role is responsible for leading NCG's EBIA efforts and strengthening community engagement across the co-op system. This is an ideal position for a strategic, relationship-driven leader who will partner with co-ops, internal teams, and external organizations to foster belonging, drive meaningful change and create lasting impact in the communities our co-ops serve.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of NCG's EBIA strategy.
  • Manage research projects (e.g., surveys, focus groups, benchmarking, member insights, and/or landscape scans) to generate insights that inform strategy, programming, and executive-facing recommendations.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve EBIA within the NCG member co-op community.
  • Support and coordinate the NCG's EBIA employee resource group (Co+Inclusive) and coordinate activities that assist NCG staff with their EBIA journey, tracking progress against committee goals and initiatives.
  • Cultivate partnerships with external organizations, institutions, and community leaders to improve NCG's relationships, interactions, and connections with People of Global Majority (PoGM) and other minoritized populations.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning by partnering with the Learning & Development team in development and delivery of educational materials, including presentations, workbooks, and digital resources content for an audience with varying degrees of familiarity with EBIA concepts ensuring they reflect best practices and current research.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in organizational development, psychology, sociology, human resources, business administration, public administration, or a related field; OR 5 years equivalent professional experience in multicultural affairs, workplace culture, community relations, community development, psychology, social work, or social justice.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience designing, leading, implementing, managing, or supporting integrated strategic priorities in Equity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including People of the Global Majority, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people with disabilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when working with sensitive topics and information.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal awareness, active listening, verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills; a communication style that reflects clarity, authenticity, transparency, and approachability.
  • Demonstrated strong public speaking and facilitation skills, with the ability to meet people where they are, encourage dialogue, challenge conventional thinking, and identify and address subtle acts of exclusion through coaching and intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective, collaborative relationships with ability to assess diverse stakeholders' needs and perspectives, communicate across varying levels of familiarity and navigate conflict.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, develop practical solutions, and make sound recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage a range of stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to engage in challenging dialogue about race, class, gender, ability and other minoritized identities while taking responsibility for one's own mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and staying current with emerging EBIA trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Ability to use English language skills to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
  • Up to 30% business travel is required, including overnights and weekends.
