035316 Process Technician - Steel (Open)Job Description:
The Process Technician is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing operation with a primary focus on increasing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reducing scrap, improving paint utilization and yield, and executing corrective actions identified through plant diagnostics and operational assessments. The role works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance process stability.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Excellence
- Lead and support initiatives to improve OEE across production lines.
- Analyze production losses and identify opportunities to improve availability, performance, and quality.
- Monitor process performance metrics and develop action plans to eliminate recurring losses.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Scrap Reduction
- Identify and address sources of process variation contributing to scrap generation.
- Develop and implement projects focused on reducing material waste.
- Track scrap trends and provide regular reporting on improvement activities.
- Collaborate with production teams to standardize best practices and improve process control.
Paint Yield Improvement
- Monitor paint consumption and yield performance.
- Identify opportunities to reduce paint usage while maintaining customer and quality requirements.
- Support optimization of coating parameters, application methods, and equipment settings.
- Lead projects that reduce paint waste, rework, and overspray.
Diagnostic Execution
- Execute action plans resulting from plant diagnostics, audits, and operational assessments.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to close identified gaps.
- Track progress of diagnostic findings and ensure actions are completed on schedule.
- Validate improvements through data analysis and performance measurement.
Continuous Improvement
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate Kaizen events and process improvement workshops.
- Develop standard work, visual controls, and process documentation.
- Train operators on new procedures and best practices.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect and analyze production and process data.
- Create dashboards and reports to monitor OEE, scrap, paint consumption, and project performance.
- Present improvement opportunities and project results to site leadership.
Education and Experience:
- Typically possesses High School diploma (or equivalent), technical certification(s), or license and 3-6 years of experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of OEE concepts and manufacturing KPIs.
- Root Cause Analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, etc.).
- Process troubleshooting and data analysis.
- Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and statistical analysis tools preferred.
- Knowledge of paint/coating processes is a plus.
- Proficient in operating machines, hand-tools and electrical equipment.
- Proficient in troubleshooting, disassembling and assembling equipment.
- Solid understanding of machine building, electrical wiring, and PLC programming.
- Detail oriented with strong written and oral communication skills.

Compensation Range:
The pay range for this position is $26.63 - $45.34 annually. Typically, a competitive wage for new hires will fall between33.00 to38.00 annually. Offers for this position may vary based on market data and other factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The position may also be eligible for a short-term incentive.Benefits Statement:
