Field Operations Manager

The City of Sugar Land is seeking an experienced Field Operations Manager in the Utilities Department. 

As a Field Operations Manager, you’ll lead and support a team of dedicated field professionals while directing programs that strengthen water distribution, wastewater collection, and revenue metering operations. What We Pay

The Field Operations Manager is an exempt position with a starting salary of $87,485 - $100,609 annually.

What You’ll Do as the Field Operations Manager:

• Manage construction, operations, repair and preventative maintenance of the City’s water distribution, revenue metering and wastewater collection systems
• Recruit, hire, onboard and effectively manage assigned field staff’s training, performance and professional development
• Assign, direct and manage assigned staff and contractors’ work priorities and standards to accomplish division programs within designated service levels
• Ensure field work complies with all applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements and procedures
• Manage division’s current fiscal year operations and maintenance budget, in compliance with City policies and procedures
• Manage division’s inventory of assigned resources, to include tools, vehicles, heavy machinery, spare parts, equipment, uniforms and supplies
• Serve as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster (REQUIRED)
• During emergencies, while serving (on a rotating basis) as an on-call manager, schedule, assign and direct first responder staff, in accordance with City and departmental policies and procedures.
• Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director or their designee.

Formal Education:

• High school or General Equivalency Diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, is preferred. 

Relatable Work Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory experience related to water distribution and/or metering operations is required.
• Municipal experience is a plus.

Training (License and/or Certification):

• Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License is required
• TCEQ Class "D" Water Operator License or able to obtain within six months of hire.
