Description
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the agency's receiving function, jail supply chain, jail warehouse, jail cleaning program, sewing program, and laundry program. This position supervises county personnel and inmate workers while ensuring that supplies, equipment, inventory, and services are efficiently managed and readily available to support jail operations.
The Warehouse Supervisor exercises independent professional judgment in accomplishing day-to-day responsibilities and refers significant work problems and questions of policy to the Lieutenant for direction and assistance.
The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory, organizational, purchasing, warehouse, and communication skills, along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a secure correctional environment.
Schedule: Generally weekday, day shift; some flexibility may be requiredSupervises county personnel assigned to the warehouse, jail cleaning, sewing, laundry, and other related areas.
Establishes expectations and performance goals, monitors employee performance, provides coaching, and completes performance evaluations.
Supervises day-to-day warehouse operations, jail cleaning, sewing, laundry, and other assigned programs.
Supervises inmate workers and ensures they are properly supplied, outfitted, trained, and supervised.
Ensures inmate workers receive appropriate safety training, including biohazard disposal and containment procedures and the proper use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Oversees the computerized inventory system and ensures inventory records are accurate and maintained.
Maintains appropriate levels of jail supplies and coordinates purchasing to meet operational needs.
Works closely with jail staff to ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available and readily accessible.
Prepares, monitors, and manages jail supply budgets.
Provides responsive and professional customer service to internal customers and stakeholders.
Tracks products and inventory to prevent loss, waste, or unauthorized use.
Ensures equipment and supplies are current, properly maintained, and in good working condition.
Oversees the jail chemical program, including appropriate storage, handling, documentation, and safety practices.
Oversees the jail cleaning program and ensures safe, effective, and appropriate cleaning techniques are followed.
Develops and maintains logistics plans and contingency procedures to support emergency preparedness and continuity of operations.
Receives, distributes, stores, and accounts for food, equipment, supplies, and other materials.
Determines appropriate storage methods based on the characteristics and requirements of products and materials.
Maintains appropriate security and safety procedures in the warehouse, laundry, sewing, and related work areas.
Researches products and equipment to evaluate practicality, cost effectiveness, quality, availability, and suitability for operational needs.
Communicates with vendors to obtain information regarding pricing, availability, service warranties, delivery schedules, and product specifications.
Ensures applicable purchasing policies, procedures, and protocols are followed.
Coordinates informal price quotations and obtains formal bids when appropriate.
Communicates county purchasing procedures and requirements to vendors.
Resolves vendor-related issues and assists vendors with county registration requirements necessary for eligibility.
Coordinates replacement of defective, damaged, or unacceptable products with vendors.
Prepares reports and provides information regarding inventory, purchasing, operations, and other assigned areas.
Performs related functions as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Accredited high school diploma or state-recognized equivalency certificate (such as a GED) required.
Previous supervisory experience.
Valid driver's license.
Successful completion of required pre-employment screening, including oral board, polygraph, and background investigation.
Experience with bulk purchasing, warehouse receiving, inventory management, or supply chain operations.
Experience in a correctional, public safety, governmental, or similarly regulated environment.

Knowledge of supervision, purchasing procedures, inventory control, warehouse operations, cleaning systems, and applicable laws and regulations.
Knowledge of sourcing, vendor selection, purchasing practices, and cost analysis.
Ability to supervise, motivate, and develop employees and inmate workers.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple operational responsibilities.
Skill in purchasing, vendor negotiation, inventory management, computerized systems, and operating warehouse equipment.
Ability to analyze information, solve problems, make sound recommendations, and develop clear reports and specifications.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with employees, vendors, customers, and partner agencies.
Ability to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and purchasing requirements.
Ability to develop logistics and contingency plans and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Accredited high school diploma or state-recognized equivalency certificate (such as a GED) required.
- Before the performance of assigned duties, Security Control Specialists be deputized by the Ada County Sheriff;
- Incumbents shall wear the uniform of a non-commissioned Deputy Sheriff and wear an identification badge while on duty;
- Must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire; and
- This position has been designated safety-sensitive therefore, the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
