  Primary Responsibilities

  The Driver / Equipment Coordinator is responsible for ensuring company tractors, trailers, and yard equipment remain safe, compliant, and operational. This role serves as the primary liaison between drivers, technicians, and operations to coordinate maintenance, manage work orders, track equipment registrations and compliance requirements, and maintain an organized yard. The position also operates as a yard hostler, moves trailers throughout the yard, and provides occasional route coverage as business needs require. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:30 am - 7:00 pm

  Essential Functions

  • Fleet Maintenance

    • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repair schedules for tractors, trailers, and yard equipment.
    • Create, submit, and track maintenance work orders.
    • Work closely with technicians, vendors, and drivers to identify and resolve equipment issues.
    • Monitor repair progress and ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
    • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance history.
    • Conduct routine equipment inspections and follow up on deficiencies.

    Compliance & Equipment Management

    • Track registrations, license plates, tags, permits, and other required equipment documentation.
    • Ensure fleet equipment remains compliant with company, DOT, and regulatory requirements.

    Yard Operations

    • Operate a yard hostler to move trailers and equipment safely throughout the yard.
    • Coordinate trailer placement and yard organization to support efficient operations.
    • Conduct daily yard audits and equipment checks.
    • Ensure trailers are properly parked, secured, and ready for loading or dispatch.
    • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe yard environment.

    Driver & Technician Support

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment-related issues.
    • Communicate with drivers regarding maintenance needs, repair status, and equipment availability.
    • Collaborate with technicians to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
    • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving operational equipment concerns.

    Administrative & Technology Responsibilities

    • Utilize laptops, fleet management software, spreadsheets, and other technology tools to manage equipment records and schedules.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance, compliance, and operational reports.
    • Track equipment status, downtime, and repair costs.
    • Ensure all maintenance and compliance records are current and properly documented.

    Transportation Support

    • Provide occasional route coverage when operational needs arise.
    • Support dispatch and transportation operations as required.
    • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections when operating company equipment.
    • Maintain safe driving practices and compliance with company policies.

  Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience operating a yard hostler or moving trailers in a yard environment.
    • Knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance practices.
    • Understanding of equipment registrations, compliance requirements, and fleet documentation.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and fleet management systems.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
    • Physical Requirements
      • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
      • Ability to climb in and out of equipment and trailers safely.
      • Ability to walk the yard and conduct equipment inspections.
      • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

       

     

  Qualifications / Additional Skills / Aptitude:

  • Excellent communication, grammar, verbal and writing skills.
  • Must be resourceful and well organized with an ability to work on multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Above average telephone skills with experience focusing on customer satisfaction (internal and external).
  • High energy level, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, and flexible.
