Excavation Supervisor (Ganger)

Description
· Supervision and leadership of the excavation and reinstatement works team in the delivery of underground cable laying and duct work.
· Management of on-site Health & Safety matters
· The post holder carries out the day-to-day running of the excavation and reinstatement works team and will be required to deal with any matters that may impede workflow and achieving daily delivery targets.
· The role must deal impartially with minor personnel problems and infringements as they arise. This role is a key liaison person for other sections to obtain services from the section including the work scheduling function.
Work is carried out in a variety of environments including on the public roadways and in all weather conditions and reasonable fitness is required for on-site work and the carrying of heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
1. As the Team Supervisor this role is directly accountable for the operation of the ground and reinstatement sub-function, acting as key support to the Excavation Team Lead in the execution of the wider corporate strategy.
2. Supervision and management of small teams.
3. All aspects of site management including quality control of delivery works and completion/‘making good’.
4. Health & Safety on site including submission of RAMS and completion of Accident Reports if required. 5. Ensure the safety of excavation sites both inside and outside of working hours.
6. Ensure any IT requirements such as Timesheets and Service Orders are completed in a timely manner. 7. Draw materials from GEL Stores and make minor purchases of materials as required facilitating work. 8. Carry out daily maintenance of tools and minor plant and equipment as required.
9. Operate excavation tools and machinery and carry out some digging by hand.
10. Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.
11. Such other duties as may be allocated, and interchange of duties as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
· Guernsey Driving Licence.
· Minimum of 5 years demonstrable previous experience in a similar role.
· Ideally ‘Street Works’ qualified.
· Plant and machinery training and experience.
· First line management experience of small teams.
· Passport to Safety.
· Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
· Ability to solve problems and identify risks/issues before they arise.
· Ability to manage and motivate teams to meet operational delivery deadlines.
· Good interpersonal and communications skills.
· Basic IT skills.
· Must be able to undertake all aspects of the role including, but not limited to heavy lifting
