The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking an Emerging Market Sourcing Manager for the Business Unit Transformers to join our innovative and forward-thinking team.

As an Emerging Market Sourcing Manager, you will play a crucial role in both category management and supplier quality assurance activities for Emerging Market suppliers in India and China, ensuring that our suppliers deliver high-quality materials while maintaining cost-effectiveness. You will ensure the implementation of a compliant and sustainable sourcing strategy to support the business in relation to Emerging Market sourcing activities from China and India. In alignment with our sourcing strategy, you will implement proactive quality assurance processes to enhance the quality and delivery performance of our supply base in Emerging Market countries. You will lead or support supplier assessments, manage development initiatives, oversee parts approvals, conduct on-site inspection activities, and drive continuous improvement, ultimately elevating our supplier partnerships and contributing to operational excellence.

 

How you will make an impact

1. You will lead, mentor, and develop an EM team while fostering a proactive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.

2. You will analyze spending, market dynamics, and price trends to support fact-based EM sourcing decisions.

3. You will execute EM sourcing initiatives, identify new supplier opportunities, and support strategic sourcing and risk mitigation with BU, Hub, and Category teams.

4. You will support relevant RFX processes and supplier negotiations where required.

5. You will analyze EM category cost structures to identify competitive cost advantages and negotiation opportunities.

6. You will manage EM supplier relationships, performance, risks and escalations in collaboration with Category, Quality and Hub teams.

7. You will drive scouting of new suppliers and novel transformer design features in close collaboration with Category managers and other internal stakeholders like Engineering and R&D.

8. You will support EM supplier qualification through SAP Ariba assessments, on-site audits, recommendations, and corrective action follow-up.

9. You will lead or support supplier development initiatives, training, and process improvements for new and existing EM suppliers.

10. You will coordinate PPAP activities for new suppliers and parts, support corrective actions, and ensure completed approvals are registered in S/4HANA.

11. You will monitor EM supplier performance indicators and support improvement actions for suppliers of concern.

12. You will lead or support escalated non-conformity resolution with EM suppliers through 8D review, stakeholder coordination, and on-site investigation.

13. You will plan and conduct supplier-site inspections before shipment and ensure non-conformities are repaired and reported to buyer factories.

14. You will support SCM sustainability by ensuring required EM tasks are completed on time.

15. You will be responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

1. Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in an engineering discipline.

2. 8+ years of relevant experience in category management and/or supplier quality and development in the transformer, automotive, or other similar industries, including people leadership experience.

3. Previous experience in strategic sourcing, negotiation and contracting, tender management, cost control, and supply base management.

4. Previous experience with some of the following production processes: metal fabrication, sheet metal processing, machining, casting, conductor production, or surface protection.

5. Experience working with process improvement and/or continuous improvement practices, such as project management, Kaizen, DMAIC, A3, 8D, and 5 Why analysis.

6. Proven experience with process audits, PPAP, P-FMEA, process control plans, statistical process control, and inspection test plan creation.

7. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to create a collaborative environment to accomplish project objectives.

8. Willingness to travel approximately 50% and fluency in written and spoken English.
