Role Synopsis
The Senior Appraisal Engineer is part of bp's Global Concept Development (GCD) team and supports the development of major energy projects from early concept through project selection. Working across technical, commercial, finance and project teams, you will evaluate opportunities, shape investment decisions and help deliver safe, reliable and competitive project outcomes. The successful candidate will initially support the NEP Expansion (NEPx) project, a major carbon transport and storage development.
Key Accountabilities:
Lead appraisal and concept development activities for major capital projects.
Support project progression through FEL1, FEL2 and concept selection activities.
Evaluate development options and see opportunities to maximize project value.
Develop and maintain economic evaluations, business cases and decision-support materials.
Apply decision-quality principles to support investment and project decisions.
Assess project risks, uncertainties and potential outcomes to support informed decision-making.
Work closely with subsurface, facilities, commercial, finance and project teams to align on project objectives and recommendations.
Support stage-gate reviews, assurance activities and governance requirements.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance project opportunities.
Promote safe, reliable and lower-carbon project solutions consistent with bp standards and expectations.
Share lessons learned and best practices across projects and teams.
Monitor and communicate project performance, including progress, risks, cost and schedule considerations.
Initial Assignment
The successful candidate will initially join the NEP Expansion (NEPx) project and support appraisal activities during a critical phase of project development. The project includes offshore infrastructure, subsea facilities and carbon transport and storage capabilities and is progressing toward key investment and concept selection decisions.
The role is intended to provide parental cover for the current Senior Appraisal Engineer. To ensure a smooth transition, the successful candidate is expected to join during August or September 2026 to allow for an effective handover period. The initial assignment is expected to last approximately 12 months.
Following completion of the assignment, there may be opportunities to continue supporting the project or contribute to other strategic projects within Global Concept Development, subject to business requirements.
Essential Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other relevant field
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
Proven experience in the oil & gas industry/ Energy preferably with demonstrable capability in project appraisal/engineering/ management .
Experience working on one or more Major Projects in the front-end stages
Must have strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
Comfortable with structured decision making under uncertainty
Strong integrator across disciplines and business functions
Self-starter; inclusive and respectful individual capable of building strong relationships, influencing and collaborating with others; understanding the big picture and driving focus on what matters
Ability to work with complex, ambiguous, and limited data.
Clear understanding of sources of value and risk in major capital projects
Desirable Criteria:
Cross-discipline networking and technical understanding
Demonstrable broad interest in industry trends, competitor strategy, global renewable policy developments and emerging technology.
Foundational understanding of Project Finance and JV structuring options.
Relevant experience leading/participating in front-end stages of projects.
Relevant experience leading/participating in execution/operating stages of projects is also a plus.
Good capability applying decision quality/decision analysis practices.
APM/PMP accreditation.
Chartered or Professional Engineering accreditation
